Battery replacement advice

Post by TOMGREEN413 » Thu Aug 17, 2023 10:53 pm

Sorry to bother you guys, I've got a new battery for the wife's 2013 e89 and wondered if there was a recommended procedure for battery charging. I've got a Creator 310 for resetting and codes that might flag up, but anything I should know before attempting the replacement?
Many thanks in advance.

So if the new battery is the same capacity then you need a coder to register it…if it’s different capacity you need to code it and register it..

The coder will have it listed as a function…

Of course it’s an AGM battery?
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Straightforward with almost any half decent coder …

Battery replacement advice

Assuming it's the same spec AH / CCA, you can just swap it & it will work, but not optimal.

The car keeps track of the age of battery / cycles etc & adjusts it's charging current to the battery based on this. As the battery ages, the car increases the charge rate to try & keep up.

If you don't register the new battery with the car's electronics, it will still charge at a higher rate than it needs to. Hence you risk problems by ignoring the step of registering.
