Roof issue

Post by andymorris » Fri Aug 18, 2023 6:25 pm

Hi all
Got an A68C roof issue which refers to roof shell 2 packed. I be replaced the hall sensor and checked the hall sensor wires back to the control unit for continuity and that is all fine. The roof tries to open and the rear window lifts up about 6 inches and then keeps trying to go further up but then gets stuck.
Seems pointless buying another sensor having just bought one. Can anyone help out on this as in desperation I phoned a local hood technician who said they were booked until the end of October. Tganks :headbang:

It might be worthwhile asking your local garage, my wife's ford focus cc roof stopped working and we were told it needed to be a hardtop roof specialist or Ford main dealer with a roof guy. So out of hope we booked it into our local garage to see what codes he could find and he had the car for a day and repaired it, apparently the wires going into a hall sensor had broken. Cost £175.00 which seemed cheap to me as the nearest expert was 200 odd miles away. As I say worth a try.
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

If it moves and stops, broken wire.

Best bet on right side take out the two pairs and solder in new wires to existing sensors.

From the forum seems 3 failure modes
1/ Wires break, i think most common
2/Hall sensors rust and split, few seen here.
3/Limit switch on boot fail, possible dry solder joint on component.

All my car faults no. 1., three times.
Should add one loose connector on boot ram, connector had no locking barb.

Thanks flybobbie
When you say take out ‘the two pairs’ what do you mean by this? Do you mean both wires to the two hall sensors in the right hand hydraulic rams?
Thanks again.
