Sim only contract

Post by ronk » Sun Jun 04, 2023 4:14 pm

My existing Three contract is about to expire
Currently I have an Unlimited everything deal which has Eu Roaming (I normally spend 30 or 40 days in the Eu)

Three now charge £2 / Day for this privilege and they have also ramped up the monthly charge.

With this in mind I was thinking of changing iD Mobile - they seem to offer some very competitive deals which include Eu Roaming - it is ironic that they use the Three network which I’ve found to be the only one that works in the areas we go to.

Basically, has anyone used or is currently using iD mobile?

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

My wife and I have sim only deals with Sky.

Just gone up to £7 per month :x for unlimited data and Txt but as you say, £2 per day in the EU but only if its used that day. No idea how many minutes that gets you because have never paid more than the monthly charge for years.

We use WhatsApp when abroad so don't have a problem with roaming charges.

Look at the O2 deals on USwitch - O2 still include roaming in Europe at no extra cost

e.g. Unlimited Minutes, Unlimited Texts, 30GB Data, European Roaming for £8 / month (12 month contract)

My 11 year old son is on iD Mobile. We chose them due to data roll overs (although he blitzes it each month) and also I could control spending with caps etc. Whenever he uses his phone all works well like most suppliers.

I'm clearly going to require your advice soon. My eldest turns 11 in September and wants his first phone

I actually got him two phones! A £20 nokia with buttons and no data with a cheap monthly rolling contract. This is for him to keep in his school bag when he goes to school (he gets the train on his own). He has the smart phone for home, on iD Mobile cant remember the phone, a cheap samsung or something, which he uses WhatsApp on to call/message friends and play Roblox on (some online game all the kids love).

I did install something called Family Link on his phone, and the app on my iPhone. This allows me to limit screen time remotely, as well as monitor usage, apps, etc.

Cheap phone for school is a great idea. And you have a data plan for home too? Guess WiFi is used mainly when in the house. Also heard about Family Link, so good to know it works across iOS and Android.

Lebara do a cheap sim only deal.
£5/mth. 1000 mins & texts, 100 international minutes, 3Gb data + Free roaming
They piggybank the Vodafone network

I've not used them, but my mate has with no issues. You can jump around month to month within their plans as well as they are 30 day contracts
You can sign up so they just keep running

ID mobile reviews on Trustpilot are not great

Honda CB500F.
Gone but not forgotten E85 2.0 MSport

I have a Lebara sim, same deal as above. Use it for the bike and kept my old iphone 12 for the same purpose. Costing £1.49 per month for 6 months, at which point I will discontinue it as I won't be using the bike after that. I'll simply look for another deal in the spring.

Although it's obviously a different number from my main phone, as they are both iphones I get texts and emails to both phones and only my Fiancée has the phone number for calls.
Abstinence is fine, in moderation.
