Remus catback exhaust E89 Z4 (USA)
I installed a Remus catback exhaust. For clarification this is an American E89 Z4. That means that instead of the resonators after the cats we have secondary cats - That's right 4 cats in all. Any way here's the install - Remus was not the best fit. We got it done but not without some modifications.
1st off there is a bunch of stuff to take off before removing the exhaust - remove a rear brace and a couple of skid plates, then flange bolts at the primary cats, a bracket near the primary cats, and in the rear, disconnect a rubber hangar and ignore the most rear rubber hangar instead remove one 13mm bolt above the back box and drop the hangar bracket and back box complete. Once the rear section was lowered the whole system pulled back and out. We were surprised at how heavy it was.
First thing we did was lay the Remus on top of the old system and get a feel for fit and where to cut. Right away we saw some problems. The bends were not exactly the same and the Remus was a bit long on the right side. In hind sight the manufacture should shorten the right side about 6-8 inches to get out of the curve they had us cutting and fitting in.
We ended up heating and bending the Remus pipe to better fit angle of the pipe at the secondary cat. And then we added a strap same as the OEM system had to hold the width at the rubber mounts. See pics.

And the best part - the sound. Sorry video won't post to website.
To view sound bytes go here > https://youtu.be/Yb09C-K9Zos
The Remus is not loud - it is a little louder and a deeper tone.

I’m surprised you decided to alter the Remus exhaust.
If that was me I would’ve sent it back and asked for a new one with the correct fitment. Or gone with a Supersprint instead...

The bending was minor enough. Certainly a ton of work for nothing to stop mid project and get in a fuss with the manufacture.

Maybe so, but you have now voided your warranty on that exhaust...
Whereas if you sent it back you’d have a new exhaust with warranty...
Food for thought next time ey...

Honestly, thanks for your concern.
But I would do the same thing again.

That's a really poor design by Remus. Not sure how they got it so wrong.
Glad you got it sorted in the end.

That definitely sounds better OP.
Shame Remus didn't get theirs the right shape though, but at least you had the fettling skills to make if fit!
A previous owner had a custom cat-back system fitted to mine - I'll have to make a sound clip of mine.

Thank you for your posts.
I sorta knew what we were in for... I emailed the representative before he shipped. Said he wanted to make sure I understood the secondary carts were to stay put and to be sure to have the system professionally installed... That was my first clue No worries though. We made it work . I can't recommend it to anyone here in the USA.
Note there is a different system for European Z4s that goes from the forward flange to the tips. You guys may get a better fit.
In any case the sound is really growing on me... I'm fresh back from a 60 mile spin.
