FIXED!!!! Bluetooth pairing with nav...driving me nuts!

Post by ph001 » Sat Aug 12, 2017 10:03 pm

Hi guys, loving the new Z4 3.0Si but having a mare getting my iphone 6 to pair up with it.

I think the user manual is completely wrong for those that have nav (in that the button in the centre storage pull down doesn't actually seem to do anything).

I believe the correct technique is to have the ignition on and press the R/T button on the steering wheel. Sometime this brings up 'searching' on the nav screen whilst others it seems to say 'activate phone'. I haven't worked out why it's one way or the other but in any case, when it's on activate phone I can't see the BMW in my list of bluetooth devices on the phone.

I've literally been trying for hours. Any ideas?

Turn car off.
Hold button in centre console for 3 seconds.
Keep button pressed whilst turning key to position 1.
Release button as the screen rises.
System is now in pair mode.
Pair it using your phone and input the code from the manual.

PS: The button does do something...

That doesn't work unfortunately - it never goes into pair mode. I have tried every variation. I think that only works for the non-nav cars.

That is for nav cars also. You might need to delete the existing phones first otherwise you'll get the symptoms you are getting if it's got 5 paired already.

So weird. Defo doesn't work, what about the 'activate phone' message? Cant delete the existing phones as it never goes into pairing mode in the first place.

Bluetooth pairing with nav...driving me nuts!

OK....had similar issues with my Samsung S8+ phone.....
- First make sure phone has the latest operating system drivers
- then remove exising original (my case Nokia phone) from cradle
- then delete all existing phone memories by holding down the button in the cradle console for about 10 secs (3 beeps tells you its done)
- then start pairing process (listed in earlier post)
- then be patient...if you have more than 1000 contacts like me it might take a few minutes to copy contacts

Good luck, I almost gave up on this...first dealership tried, then second dealership got it right!!

I have nav so it does work as stated but once you manage to clear the old devices and pair yours you may still have an issue.

My phone and my previous one (both Android) will not synch contacts and it says searching forever... It will still make calls if you instigate them on your phone and it will answer incoming calls using the R/T button. I have read to try using Bluetooth Phonebook which is an app you can download for cheap. Still doesn't work for me though. I know there's not a fundamental problem as an iPhone shows its contacts.

No luck at all with this. I can never get the nav screen to say 'Bluetooth pairing'. Here's a video I took of the issue...

You're holding the button too long.

Before you try to pair have you managed to get the 3 beeps after 10s to clear everything? I can't remember if you do that with the ignition on or off.

It is literally 3s with ignition off but the crucial part is releasing the button as the screen starts to open before you can see it. Otherwise you will go round in circles, I had the same issue you have until I let go sooner.

Have tried every combination from 1 second to 10 seconds. Can never get it to go into pairing mode :-(

I think you have to get it into pairing mode first before you can do the additional 10 second press to clear the history so can't even get that far.

Well in your video you hold the button too long and should release it when the screen starts to rise.

Bluetooth pairing with nav...driving me nuts!

Have tried every combination of times - never goes into pairing mode.

However - tried to take the car out for a drive this eve and it struggled to start due to low battery volts - I wonder if it's won't pair if the volts are low? Anyway, got on charge this eve so will try again tomorrow. Thanks for your suggestions so far all.

Battery volts don't seem to make any difference. I'll go to the stealers at lunchtime to see if they can shed any light on the issue.
