A couple of years ago i'd agree, but the new 4 cyl Cayman just doesn't inspire. :(
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

I voted M2 or wait, I like the F type but the normal ones aren't that quick, the V8 is lovely though 8)

The S does the dash in 4.8 and onto 171 in the right place. M2 in 4.5 and 151. BHP is 380 and 365, so nowt between them.
Simple overdrive pulley and a remap for around $500 takes the 3.0 to 450-500hp if you want to fly (on my list to do soon)

V8 is a great straight line brute but too compromised as a daily or for UK roads, but can be bagged for c£40k. Of course they can come in SVR option pushing topping 575hp

Sorry I didn't mean they are slow cars, I love the F types!

Just coming from a 35is he will probably find it not too much different that's all?

I've been out in the V8 I thought it was great fun, yes it was all over the place but fun 8)

I didn't take it the wrong way or anything like that, was trying to understand the point. I think the performance is all relative and involves a series of compromises. I tried the Alfa 4C and it was a rocket and a hoot on the road with tremendous mid range pull, but was killing me after 15 minutes :(
Not sure at this price point there's much that will feel like a step up from the 35is given it also does the dash in 4.8 onto 155mph. To do so you'd have to be sub 4 to really feel a difference

Edit - oh no Jaguar has introduced a 2 litre 4 port turbo into the range. 300hp is decent enough at 150hp/litre, although 5.8 to 60 isn't a quick car anymore

The 4c is a lovely looking car but there is no chance I'd ever spend that kind of money on 1.7 4 cylinder!

I'm a bit old fashioned but I think at a certain price a car really does need to have more cylinders, I think it adds to the drama :)

Anyway back on topic, I think an M2 with a remap would be quite nice although for the same money you can get a nice 1M... 8)

Anything sub 5 sec 0-60 is the starting point really. I do sort of share the sentiment that 4 cyl for £60-70k is just not right. I pay cash for my cars so I do want to feel that I get some value.

It really will be a high mile daily. I have my bike for 0-60 in 2.6 kicks :)

Low mileage M4? If your doing a fair few miles the 4 is excellent on the motorway and that?

Depends on what kind of car you're looking for - in my recent experience the Jag was awesome (but preferred the V6 as the 8 seemed to be too much for the car and tyres to cope with) , but if you want a car to throw around the B roads, can I throw in a curve ball and suggest a 981 Cayman GTS.

Interior rivals the F-type for finish quality, and the standard option exhaust is equally entertaining - a 2015 car with just a couple thousand miles from a Porsche dealer will give you a chunk of change from £75k
Blue Z4C now long gone, as is it's replacement, and the Red Zed's gone too.. now piloting a rather tasty Carmine flat6

How about something that would be a perfect DD and is slightly more exclusive...
