2005 Z4 power top motor replacement
Hello, new to the forum. I live in Bermuda and have owned my Z since new.
I do not have much mileage just 14k. I have had no trouble until now. Seems like I need to replace the power top motor. I have found ShipKiller's posts on how to remove the soft top and how to change the motor. The attached photos are no longer there. Is it possible to somehow recover them,or better still is there a video how-to somewhere?
It's somewhat primitive in Bermuda, service wise. So I am working with a shop that has never done it before. So, pictures are worth thousands of words.
Any direction very welcome. Thanks,Brit20

Are you sure the motor is defunct? What happens when you push the button? Have you checked the parcel shelf in the boot?
Be sure before removing the roof.

shipkiller's guide, with pics, is in the 'DIY' section at bimmerfest. A lot of US members there too, which can be helpful for US-spec specific questions about your Z4.
Cheers.

Thanks Smartbear, pretty sure it is the motor. Gradually got harder to put the top down with the button. Now just hums when I try. I can put it up and down manually. I have the new motor. Would it be better to replace the two fluid hoses at the same time? Quite expensive at BMW price of $400 for both. Brit20

Thanks Enzed4 I will search that out. This car is a euro 2.2 model righthand drive of course. Lots of parts are same as US model though.

Ah, sorry, saw you were in Bermuda and assumed you had US Z4. Didn't realise you have a Euro-spec version. This forum's probably more useful then.
Best of luck with the motor change.

If you can accomodate the Wife and two teenagers for a week and cover my Airfares, I'll gladly start organising a round the world Roof fixing Trip, plus relocate your motors to the boot at the same time.

No need to remove the roof for the job.. Ive just done it without removing and about to post a how to now.. really a lot easier than removing the roof.
