Installing BMW Advanced Car Eye
Hi,
New here, from Holland! I bought my Z4 e85 2004 2,5L in 2012 and absolutely love my car!
I recently bought a Dashcam, the BMW Advanced Car Eye now I need to connect the three cables to the "CAS control unit A16". The big question; where is it placed and how do I get there? I guess it's placed behind the OBD port?
Has anyone tried something like this before?
Thanks!

Re: Installing BMW Advanced Car Eye
As far as I'm aware, according to BMW the Advanced Car Eye is compatible with the E89 not the E85/6 so you may have problems following the installation instructions

Re: Installing BMW Advanced Car Eye
Looking at the details for this, I don't think it's compatible with the E85 models; it appears to be for the E89?
Details here
There are other dash cams available for the E85, and a number of threads on here

Thanks for your reactions! The installation isn't that hard, the only difficult part is the connecting the wires to the CAS. I have read the manual; http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attach ... 1428352857 it names the E type BMW's, that's why I think it is possible because the only part you really need it the CAS. But I can't find anywhere on the internet what type CAS (the A16?) the Z4 has or where it is located..

I don't believe the Z4 (e85/6) HAS a CAS module?Prickaerts wrote:Thanks for your reactions! The installation isn't that hard, the only difficult part is the connecting the wires to the CAS. All the immobilizer / keyfob activity is controlled by the GM5 / EWS modules, and the other features you find in cars with a dedicated CAS module don't exist on the E85/6... probably why you're struggling to find any info on it

Re: Installing BMW Advanced Car Eye
sk93 has beaten me to it - I have a vague recollection that CAS is part of the EWS module on the E85/6 and it's only later E series that had it as a separate module, which is probably why those are the models listed by BMW as compatible with the camera

Made a new connection in the fusebox, works perfectly! Rear cam installed between the two head restraints. Looking very nice!
It records when someone is near the Z4, so far I could confront the neighbor with footage of her cat messing with the roof!

Prickaerts, would you have happened to have chronicle your install? Photos (especially where you wired into the fuse box) would always be appreciated.

Re: Installing BMW Advanced Car Eye
Sorry, let a mechanic do it when the z was in for a repair. He told me he just picked an "empty" fuse (which is always powered, not just when the key is in the ignition) the cable went behind the glovebox, behind the section under the steering wheel (don't know the English word for it) and up behind the panel around the windshield. The camera in the back I placed between the headrests, just behind the wind blocker, works perfectly:)
