Noisy Coupe

Post by leeward » Sun Sep 07, 2014 2:44 pm

I'm getting a real drone from my coupe. It gets progressively louder until from 55 to 65 mph it's unbearable, totally impossible to even talk. Above 65 it drops off rapidly until it's almost gone. The car is an auto. Any ideas?

Wheel bearing? I had a loud whine, turned out a wheel bearing. Is it coming from left or right?

I think it sounds like it's coming from the nearside rear although I couldn't absolutely swear to it

I would get that checked out sooner rather than later if there's a chance it's a wheel bearing and it's as loud as you describe.

Hmm, wheel bearing is a squeal, increasing in pitch as the wheel is loaded up or speed increased.. easy to check, put it in some corners and listen if the pitch increases decreases...

You never said if the noise has just developer or has always been there? What exhaust do you have?

Noise has only recently developed and as far as I know the car has a standard exhaust. The noise doesn't seem to change when I turn the wheel. It just starts off as a low drone and gets louder and louder as speed increases. Pitch doesn't seem to change much just volume. I've booked it in at Autotech Performance here in Telford for next Tuesday so hopefully Pete wll be able to track it down.
