I'm not sure if a a red convertible can trump a blue coupe? Everyone knows red is worth at least 15bhp? 8)

Bluetooth phone connection issue

Post by mcoupe_AJ » Tue Mar 05, 2019 1:37 am

I have a 2006 M Coupe. This is probably a stupid question but is there way to have my phone play music through Bluetooth or is the Bluetooth only for talking on the phone?

I have been looking into Bluetooth enabled aux cords to get around this issue but it would be way easier if the car automatically connected! I appreciate the input.

LINK to aux cord I'm considering: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009N ... 1L6A&psc=1

Nope, phone connection only - our Bluetooth hardware dates back the early 21st century, and Bluetooth music streaming was still years away.

That said, Bluetooth is a lossy format, so it's not ideal for streaming music, plus controlling from your phone is pretty clunky. I would look into something like a Grom unit to allow you to interface an iPod or USB media, or a simple aux cable to connect your phone. Being a 2006 model you probably don't have the aux cable connection (officially added for 2007), but I've heard of some late 2006 builds having it. If you don't have it, it's pretty easy to add.

The newer bluetooth codecs are very high quality. If you have the aux in then it's a doddle - just go for something like this..

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mpow-Bluetooth ... etooth+car

..and a psu to power it:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... UTF8&psc=1

Wire it into the fusebox with a piggyback fuse onto one of the switched ignition fuses.

Audio quality is amazing, can control your music with the buttons on the bluetooth receiver, auto connects when you switch your ignition on. Only thing you have to do is start Spotify / music on your phone when you get in.

Here is the link to the install I did. Very easy. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=104224&hilit=iphone&start=15

Nice one, although I prefer it on the lower facia so you can't see any wires. In terms of value for money for getting audio streaming it's unbeatable. Quality is great too. Make sure you have the volume turned right up on the bluetooth receiver by pressing the right hand button until you hear a beep.

Sounds a good addition. I presume when listening to music if someone calls it won’t be connected to the car?

It handles all that too...pauses the music and you decide to accept or reject the call with centre button.

I managed to pair my S8 semi-successfully. It hung on the syncing contacts bit, but still seems to work.

I mean, it's pretty much only going to be used to answer calls anyway, and even then just so I can say "I'm driving" :driving:

Music wise, anybody managed to hook up a thing for bluetooth audio that plays nicely with the steering wheel controls?

In my E82 I have a Viseeo tune2air, but I'm guessing that's not going to work without a USB input.
