I give up with the S54. Was considering a C63 and be done with it
problem is, you didn't have a good one to start with....... so your reference point is all skewed.... fair play for trying but i always though you went about the whole thing backwards tbh, let me tell you a solid, well maintained s54 will take a hole lot of punishment , and then some......
To be fair By, your right. The car was never going to be right. It was doomed from the offset.... but and a very big but that I don’t regret. At the time when I purchased the car, I wasn’t in a position to go out and buy a straight one. So armed with a dream I set about LD39240 rebuild.
Now having studied my arse off to better my career, I’m in a position to let go of the car.

Regardless of cost, the up and downs......... i done it and it was epic. It’s killing me removing parts.
great attitude just don't let your experience put you off the right s54 engined car....

This. The fact that it was crashed by the previous owner would tend to suggest it may have been abused before it even got to the OP. Then ragging it on the edge from cold every time it’s driven has finished the job. There’s a lot to be said for having some mechanical sympathy and treating the car with the care it requires before driving it hard.
Only when the car was stripped down, we found evidence of another unrecorded crash the car had in its early years. Guessing it was repaired by the dealers.
