My advice would be to keep the Z4M and give it sometime, as nice as the porks are they become very normal after some time purely because of how good they are (if that makes sense)

Would love a GTS and I did consider it but it was a lot of money. More than I’d have comfortable to be tied up in one car! Plus mine has all the GTS spec, just lacking the 10hp. It’s plenty quick enough!

Just a lowly Sales Manager! No kids, spend all my money on cars! Haha!
Must update my signature though, I’ve sold sold the TVR and Caterham. Just got the M135i, Z4M and Boxster now.

Thanks mate. I am very pleased with it!
Gave the Z4M a good clean and polish this evening. It still looks good.

Z4MR - Was going to sell, now considering keeping
Hi Dan,
You are going through the same conundrum as a few of us have been through already.
I have a low mileage 2nd car Z4MC which I have had for 10 years now. Recently I bought a 911 997.1 Carrera 2S to replace the Z4MC and once I'd got it realised its a very different 'sports car' to the Z4MC. Basically I still own both and will not be selling either for the foreseeable future, but if I had to pick one car regardless of money, I'd take the Z4M as it feels more special and is much rarer than Boxster/Cayman/911.
I considered selling my Z4MC and 997.1 C2S to buy a Cayman 981 GTS, but the two cars I have I feel provide a better all round analogue driving experience for similar financial outlay and better residuals, which is more important to me than latest SatNav, EPAS steering, and low CO2.
Each to their own on car choice of course so I would not question your Boxster 981 which is a fabulous car and looks great, but it doesn't offer the raw driving experience of your Z4M with the amazing S54 engine.
I would think very carefully about selling the Z4MR unless you really need to. You mention you don't need to at the moment, so I would hang on to it for now until you are 100% sure.
If storage is a problem, consider professional storage if you can find the right company near you. I'm putting my Z4M into storage over the winter in a dehumidified car storage warehouse with CTEK battery conditioner and this will cost me £100 per month. I will SORN the car over winter and this will help offset some of the the storage costs as well.
It's likely that well maintained and cared for Z4MR or Z4MC will at least hold onto their current values, as many view them a classic in the making so if you do keep your car for another 6-12 months, you shouldn't see a drop in value especially if you put minimal miles on it.
Good luck with your choice, and enjoy the 981 Boxster.

As a guy who is lucky enough to currently have both a Z4MR and Cayman 981 I can see exactly where Dan and NickW are coming from.
When you decide to replace the Z4MR you think you are going for something "better" as a complete package and the reality I have found is that you are going for something that is just "different. The Cayman is much, much more expensive, better insulated against outside noise, razor sharp handling and looks absolutely stunning imo. The sports exhaust makes a wonderful noise but you can't really hear it unless you have the windows open.

The MR is just a different proposition. Both cars are fast but the MR is defo where the fun is. The whole raw, unruly nature of the car, sat on the back axle with that huge bonnet always puts a smile on my face. It feels aggressive and although I feel the Porsche is the better looking car and the one I would rather be seen in. I think the MR is the one I would rather be in.
Either way, considering the MR didn't sell at what was my walk away price I will keep them both for the foreseeable. Nice to open the garage at the moment.
Keep the MR Dan if you can afford to.

I had a 987 Cayman S a while ago, and whilst it was a great car, it wasn't that exciting. The 981 is a very different car to that. I think they've really improved with the 981 generation.
The Sports exhaust is really quiet with the roof up in the Boxster, but with the roof down it sounds glorious, so I get where you're coming from with that. I think in the Cayman it might be a bit too quiet.
The Z4MR is definitely more mad and lairy. It wheelspins and the back breaks loose with ease, so it's a crazy little car to drive. That makes it fun. The 981 is much quicker and easier to drive fast, but is much more poised and precise.
What you say is right, which is why I am now considering keeping it.
Your pair of cars are just stunning. The 981 Cayman S just looks so good! I wish I had a double garage!!
