I had a 993 Carrera as well; given a choice I would certainly take the 993, but they aren't exactly in the same price bracket these days.

Love to take you for a blast , am in truro, newquay, st austell triangle but ofter blast down west ,google gary watts removals for my number as cant seem to access my pm'sclockworks wrote:It looks like my 1992 911 (964 C2 coupe Tiptronic) will be going very soon. It's on a brokerage deal, and stands to make me a few quid after 3 years of ownership.
I've got an E61 as a daily driver, and a 2.2 Z4 for when it isn't raining.
I'm thinking about replacing the 2.2 with a Z4M roadster, which I'm hoping will fill the gap left by the 964, and not cost me too much in depreciation.
On paper, the M will give similar performance, but I'm not sure about the ride and general driveability. Not much chance of finding an M for sale locally (west Cornwall), or even this side of Bristol, so I'll be looking at contacting a couple of dealers to see if they can source one for me, and take the 2.2 in part exchange.
What do you guys think?
Is the M really a lot harsher than a 2.2 on 18s?
It'd be great if I could find a forum member locally with an M who'd be willing to take me for a spin.

hi busy, hoping to get in this weekend if its ok , our crew has fragmented a bit so not been getting in as much as we used to. bought a gath helmet after riding the reef at porthleven, tried it out at harlyn and got stabbed in the sciatic nerve by the nose or a fin, five weeks out of the water. i get the usual twingy back from 25 years moving pianos and antiques , but this was like being plugged into the mains,!! nasty, hope to see u on the beach sometime. ps I bet the porsche guy near saltash is adrian crawford, out on the saltash to callington rd near st mellion, a barn full of 911's. his father Pat, I think , had the harley davidson dealership in saltash in the seventies.buzyg wrote:Not sure this chap is still around. Ouch that sounds painful. Good to here your mended. I was in at Harlyn on Sunday Morning. Not Epic but a decent size & good fun, if a bit windy. The life guards reminded me why I surf in the winter, when they came over to Rescue me, as I was sat on a rock, drinking Tea from my Flask, having just got out over by the Caravan site on the left of the bay. (Sorry but some of them are pill#cks) Hopefuly catch you at the beach soon.mad4slalom wrote: hi busy, hoping to get in this weekend if its ok , our crew has fragmented a bit so not been getting in as much as we used to. bought a gath helmet after riding the reef at porthleven, tried it out at harlyn and got stabbed in the sciatic nerve by the nose or a fin, five weeks out of the water. i get the usual twingy back from 25 years moving pianos and antiques , but this was like being plugged into the mains,!! nasty, hope to see u on the beach sometime. ps I bet the porsche guy near saltash is adrian crawford, out on the saltash to callington rd near st mellion, a barn full of 911's. his father Pat, I think , had the harley davidson dealership in saltash in the seventies.

interesting, good to know you think the m is way above the 911sc. still love the last of the air cooled 993 glass top targa, very pretty car, going up now though.Darren Slone wrote:I changed from a slightly modified 911SC to my ///M and it's in a different league altogether, would I have another Aircooled 911? Yes I would, in favour of the ///M, not at all unless it was a 911RSR rep

Re: Z4M as 911 replacement?
I had a 993 Targa and a 996 C4 before the Z4 M. Both interesting cars, I really liked the 996 personally. The 993 was nice but didn't do it for me.
In the 993 I always had this sensation the car was not my friend, in the Z4M it masks your speed very well and generally eggs you on.
I much prefer the BMW, but if I was keeping it long term I would probably put some Eibachs on to sort the ride out. Interior is miles ahead of the 911s though, the old air cooled thing felt like someone put a box of interior pieces in the car and set off a grenade - the placement is so bizarre.
