Jynxed car

Post by Vonlipvig » Thu May 18, 2017 8:56 am

Wife's 3 series was hit by a highways lorry this morning, drivers side, low speed but according to her, put a hole in the door. Not seen the damage myself yet so cant judge for myself. Lorry driver has taken responsibility at the site but shall see how it holds up. Same side was hit in a carpark almost a year ago, good thing we have already renewed insurance!

Question is, any idea how much this kind of damage would cost to repair and how does this relate to the value of the car incase they try to write it off? Will upload photos later for a better idea of damage

2008 318i SE E90 saloon, manual, just under 80k. No nav or idrive, cruise, no leather. Had a quick poke on auto trader and seeing examples about 4.5k - 5k

*Edit*
Pictures added, also now getting the engine management light on after being hit. Has been to the garage for a quote, leave it in the insurance gods hands now. Luckily the lorry driver has taken full responsibility and their insurance company called to twll us that. Some decent people are left in the world

Ouch. One door is definatly gone, other one should be fine with bit of work and a respray. Rear wing, i know they can do wonders these days, but might be a bit to far gone

Most insurance companies will write off at 66% of the market value of the car. So it won't take a lot to write off your car. :(

Playing with the wheel nuts on the truck by the look of it, they can do serious damage, can't they :|
I wouldn't be surprised if the insurance write it off, rear door is toast, looks like it may have chewed some of the door internals too. Front door damage looks to have hit the door handle and the swage line on the door has damage, not the easiest repair. Rear arch looks bad too.

Have to agree with Jaime I'm afraid. It's a good example of a car that will probably end up as a Cat D repaired and back on the road down the line. It's a fairly easy repair by the looks of it, the rear wing being the worst bit and that's repairable but insurers being insurers and the cost of new parts from BMW its probably a write off. Looks like it also has damage to the front wing and sill trim as well in one of the shots.

Oh don't get me started on the engine. Fine when it's happy, but new injector caps and coils at the start of the year, won't see that back

Did see a replacement rear door on gumtree for £50, but with the engine as well post crash, not sure the wife can be done with the hassel. Told her if we get £4.5k she can get an E85, two two seaters for the house is fine, isn't it?

Just go through the insurance, it doesn't matter what it costs if he has admitted fault.
