You will not be disappointed often take the Z up that way when I feel low. Turn off the A5 on to the A470 just before Betws -y- Coed towards Blanue Ffestiniog for one of the best driving roads in the countryLewisB wrote:Looks like Wales is the destination and Snowdonia National Park!
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got less than 24hrs to use some Hotels.com rewards that I've built up, so the search will begin immediately!

From my limited experience it is important when staying in North Wales to find somewhere that is friendly and serves good food. When we stayed on the Lleyn Peninsula we couldn't find a single dog-friendly place where we could eat well and the locals in the pubs are not universally friendly to the English.
Have a great time!

Stayed there a few years ago, was very nice. We used to picnic up at the lake when the kids were young every other Sunday during the Summer

When you go to Lake Vyrnwy be sure you do the drive to Bala Lake over the Hirnant Pass it's an unclassified road so not suitable in winter or high speed driving but it's stunning and worth the every minute. We came back that way today as we wanted to book a night in the Lake Hotel for my birthday in April. Here are a few pics.

Try Menai bridgeRickRob wrote:From my limited experience it is important when staying in North Wales to find somewhere that is friendly and serves good food. Have a great time!
I was staying at my mates holiday house along the road with the long name , lllggg whatever , and we took a taxi to Menai for Sunday lunch and it was far from the friendliest place I've ever visited , when I mentioned it his wife said they had the same problem , until someone recognised him and that he used to play football for Wales many years ago and even then they weren't that friendly !
We reckon things change once you get over those bridges
I can understand the problem though , people buying holiday homes , not using them that often but driving prices up so people who have lived there all their lives struggle to get on the ladder .
