Driving route and nice hotel

Post by LewisB » Sun Mar 12, 2017 8:31 pm

Can anyone recommend a driving route and decent hotel?

My wife and I would like to take the E86 for an interesting/scenic run but stay in a nice hotel. We would be looking at two nights, a decent restaurant near by is desirable.

My wife loves to take photos so the more scenic the better.

As I'm based in Berkshire I don't really fancy trekking up to Scotland. I'd be looking at an initial 4 to 5 hour max drive to the location.

Any suggestion much appreciated.

North Wales. The hotel at Portmeirion isn't bad. Cracking location. Great rosds.
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Just about to book something similar for April & most likely a return to Snowdonia for 2 nights - 2 days , we did the same last Autumn & if you haven't been before it should do the trick
If you want a really nice place as a base for the 2 nights as opposed to single night stays in different places try this place near Llangollen http://www.thehandhotel.co.uk/ total step back in time but the food , folks & place was really great

Stayed here last year. The Royal Hotel Llangollen. Hotel is a little old fashioned. We loved it

There's a lovely restraunt at the old mill 100 yards away. We headed to Porthmerian te next day. That place is very very cool. 8) Then Drove down to Breckon. Great roads too. :D :driving:

Looks like Wales is the destination and Snowdonia National Park!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got less than 24hrs to use some Hotels.com rewards that I've built up, so the search will begin immediately!

We did a figure of 8 road tour of Snowdonia taking all the main places & its not major miles per day to cover the ground
Beddgelert at the foot of Snowdonia was worth stopping at ( ice cream shop is amazing  ) Capel Curig we drove through as it was a bit "Bowness" around 1pm on a Sunday , otherwise Bala , Llanberis Pass & the Evo triangle are all worth driving & seeing

Ruthin castle comes well recommended if your liking north Wales , I've just booked but not there until Easter
Beaumaris is very nice and well worth a night there .

Thanks for the tips Mr Wilks.

It looks like we will probably be staying near Lake Vrynwy (South East of the park) , it's got a small spa for my wife and has picturesque views (more importantly I can redeem my rewards against this hotel!).

Hopefully it'll be nice and sunny in Wales during June :? No matter what the weather, great ice cream is a winner with me :D

If your staying at the Vyrnwy Hotel the food is first class.
