Going to Boston MA, what to see & do?

Post by TonyP » Tue Feb 14, 2017 9:15 pm

Hi, spur of the moment thing, just gone a booked a trip to Boston Massachusetts for this November (yes I know it's gonna be cold).

Anyone got any tips for what to see & do, decent places to eat etc?, really don't know anything about Boston except for the Tea Party.

Tony

Fenway park, home of the Red Sox.
The Freedom trail, which winds through Boston and tells the story of the city.

Bolyston St and Newbury Street are good shopping areas, starting at Boston Common and heading west

+1 for Fenway and the Freedom Trail

If you're a foodie, lots of great places to eat, loads of bars as well. Ostra for seafood, Pizzeria Regina for Italian, Smith & Wollensky or Mooo for steaks :) Howl at the Moon or the Baseball Tavern for drinks.

Remember it's a student town (Harvard and MIT) so take your passport with you; lots of places won't serve alcohol without evidence of age despite what age you look. A few don't accept a UK Driving Licence either.

Cheers Guys, keep 'em coming.

I'll be celebrating my 53rd Birthday over there so at that age I think I'd be flattered if I was asked to produce ID :D

Depending how long you're there you can pop over to Cape Cod via Ferry or drive around if you have the time, go Whale Watching from Barnstaple

Never even knew a ferry trip to Cape Cod was an option, sadly it looks like it only runs from May to October.

It's on Beacon Hill, 20/30 mins walk from Faneuil Hall area, we stopped over in Boston and Cape Cod last year whilst travelling the east coast

Another +1 for Fenway and the Freedom Trail - the latter is delineated by red bricks laid in the middle of the concrete pavement (or sidewalk)!

As has been said the Cheers bar is an attraction, and you can also do a DUKW tour of the harbour with a recreation of the original "Tea Party".

Quincy Market is worth a tour as well - especially when it has pubs like the Black Rose complete with draught Guinness!

The pier area has some great seafood restaurants - lobster dinner overlooking the sea is a great evening! The oysters are fantastic too!

Subject to budget, the Boston Marriott Long Wharf is a great place to stay - right on the Harbour!

If you have a rental you could cruise Southwards on the East Coast to Plymouth (they have a replica of the Golden Hind, because that is where it is believed to have landed)!

Then a bit further South there is Cape Cod, with Martha's Vineyard (home of the Kennedy family) a ferry ride away from Falmouth(assuming it is running)!

Had some great weekends in Boston when I worked for a US domiciled insurance company and had to attend training courses in MA!
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Freedom trail is great. USS Constitution if you like old warships ( think HMS Victory). Enjoyed Cheers portion size is huge. Boston Tea Party attraction is a bit tacky but ok if you have a spare couple of hours.
now I'm about to have more time I've suddenly got less toys to play with!

Clicking that link always just takes me to the first post of the thread. Is there any way to fix this?
