Ooh, I like it!

Post by Ducklakeview » Sun Jan 15, 2017 8:41 pm

So, a while ago I managed to bag a 6 week old R-Tech ac/dc tig welder, as it's something I'd always wanted to learn. I can use the mig no problem, but had read tig is great for thin stuff.

Jeez, they weren't wong! Had a little play earlier. The only bit of scrap I could find was the stainless kettle I binned last week. A quick mic reading revealed it to be just on 0.5mm thick, ah well, no point making it easy I thought..

So, 95% argon, 5% O2 mix, and some thin stainless rods ask ready to go..

Don't think I did too bad for a first timer!

What you reckon Machine Monkey? I know you like your tig.

Got my uncle coming over tomorrow to give me a few pointers, he spent 30 years welding on the oil pipelines and rigs in Norway, so knows his stuff.

Looks good. Chris could vouch for the strength of tag on thin metal, read in a thread that it's holding his two halves of different cars together nicely. All but a bit windy inside while driving. :poke:
