Sat watching the news this morning and seeing the pictures of the devastation in Moore, Oklahoma. Just awful.

Sending our US forum friends my best wishes and I'm thinking about you all today. I hope you and your families are all safe and well.

x2 - quite staggering in terms of it's scale. Really hope anyone from on here is fine.

Horrific images and cannot comprehend the devastation to ones life for those involved.

They had said a few weeks ago that this season was reasonably quiet with the number of tornados

Been watching it on Sky News, absolutely horrific, especially when you discover that the children in the school most probably drowned. My thoughts go out to all of those affected.

I've not switched the telly on yet today, will do now.
Ditto to what everyone has said though. Absolutely heartbreaking. America seems to having a tough time at the moment.

I saw that on the news this morning... apparently that same place was hit by a super tornado in 1999; which had winds of 320mph - the highest recorded on earth!! Crazy

horrid.

I would want a cellar if I lived there.

That's part of the problem. Tornado cellars are not required as part of the building code as they should be. And mobile homes should be banned in tornado ally. Terrible tragedy.

awful.
listening to the state trooper interview was moving.

Building tornado proof housing to a reasonable price must be a challenge worth meeting. The cost of all that disruption will be a lot more than the value of the housing.

I found this but it seems unambitious. 110mph isn't enough.

Many of the home in that area have either a storm proof room in their home which is very expensive or a in ground shelter which is about 4 to 5,000 dollars. A picture of an in ground shelter below which is about $4,000. Hold about 4 or 5.
