Road tax - mandatory direct debit?

Post by Sae » Fri Nov 24, 2017 12:15 pm

My road tax is due, and got email in confirming a direct debit mandate for the payments, rather than just a reminder.
I did not initiate this so am only assuming that the dvla are making this mandatory in order to cut down on road tax dodgers. I normally pay with cc so also not sure how they have gotten my bank account details to set this up.
Will check for fraud however, this is a bit sneaky if its a geniune dvla policy.

Anyone else had this?

Thats what I was expecting. Possible fraud, but looks like a genuine email and acconpanying mandate, or maybe they used a spell checker before sending out the scam!

If you set it up by DD the previous year this is what they do. Are you sure your missus / partner did not do it by DD last year?

you get a letter, not an email.... whos the email from?

a direct debit will roll over year on year, a one off payment wont turn into a direct debit.

does the email ask you to click on a link and confirm your bank account details perchance? :tumbleweed:

If the email address is:

[email protected]

Then its most likely genuine as that's the email they messaged me from when I set up mine

Paid last bill with a debit card, they have created a dd mandate from the last payment details. Still a bit dodge :(

You sure? They cant set up a DD unless they have the acc no and sort code, something they shouldn't be able to find from a debit card

Doh! Found the previous DD mandate from last payment.
Was confused as this new mandate has first payment date 1/12/2017, so thought was a new mandate, it just happens to be the 1st payment for this RT bill.

Its ok, my bad, the dvla arent as bad as the hmrc
