Number plate change . . .

Post by Marlon » Thu Sep 28, 2017 10:25 am

Was checking my car out on cazana and looking at the MOT history. It shows several number plate changes, which is fine. However it shows a change of plate when first registered in April 2008 that doesn't make sense to me?
How can the first plate be a private reg? Surely when registered it should have an '08' plate?

The dealer can assign a retained plate to a new car upon first registration with their AFRL (automated first registration & licensing) system, done it many times when I was at a main dealers.

Nope, if you have a private plate on retention (or a transfer certificate) that can be assigned to a car at first registration - it's even easier with the new on-line system

We did this with our new X3 that we picked up at the end of December and transferred the private plate off our old X3 onto the new one when we went to the dealers to pick it up - took about 10-15 mins

If you later take the private plate off the car it's assigned a new age-appropriate registration by the DVLA

Still puzzled actually - why would you assign your private plate J44JHJ in April 2008 and then in the same month reassign to PK06ZGA?

I just checked my Zed on Cazana. It was itnitally registered from a retention certificate, it says ‘It had been previously registered under EN**NYD’.

That’s not possible, the registration quoted was a previous BMW that had my private plate assigned to it.

Therefore, don’t believe everything you read as it does contain misleading information :o

That's probably the truth of it - the 06 reg was what went onto the car that the private plate cans off when the OP's car was first registered.

I think the cadenza site just links together bits of information from multiple sources, rather than being a credible, maintained database itself. It associates data relating to a car via the registration number with some sort of time window applied to try filter out the same registration being transacted on another vehicle.

As above. Bought a new daily a couple of months ago and had wife’s plate assigned to it. Dealer dealt with it. I just provided retention certificate.
