Any reason not to go for rainsport 3?
Evening all.
I'll be buying some tyres this week for these lovely wheels i picked up on the forum before winter and think i'm set on uniroyal rainsport 3's.
I've read the reviews and seen some people mention them in favourable terms on here so before i buy them is there anything i'm missing? They seem to have great reviews and much cheaper than the usual suspects. I can get a full set fitted and balanced for £350, does that sound about right?
They're standard fitment . 255 35 18 rear and 225 40 18 front
Thanks

I'll be swapping from a set of 17" 103s with zeta ztr tyres (mega budget tyres) that were fitted new by sytner when i purchased the car.
Although they haven't been terrible i'm hoping the rs3's on a set of 107s will show a noticable difference.

Thanks chaps.
Good to hear some real feedback especially from drivers of the same car. I'll be booking it in this coming week for a full set.

Will you post to let us know how you get on with them?
I'm thinking of changing to these from the RFT's which were on the car when I bought it (with just too much tread to change straight away). I have the rainsport on my Caterham and love them but the profile 185/70 R13 is very different from the Zed and the flex in the side walls really aids the handling into corners but the reduced profile on Zed wheels will change this. It will be so good not to skitter and tramline on our rural muddy roads!

I doubt you could buy better rubber for £350 staggered 18s OP i would also go 245 40 18 as opposed to 255 35 , looks better , feels better , more alloy protection & most likely a few £ cheaper

I'm a wheel novice as i've only ever replaced like for like on previous cars. I take it there is no issue with moving away from the oem sizings then as won't the wheel be 'bigger' running a deeper sidewall tyre?mr wilks wrote:I doubt you could buy better rubber for £350 staggered 18s OP i would also go 245 40 18 as opposed to 255 35 , looks better , feels better , more alloy protection & most likely a few £ cheaper
Do you recommend keeping the same size as oem on the front?

You can use this site to compare tyre sizes and the impact on the accuracy of your speedo

They are very helpful sites but the only true test is a TomTom or similar to get a true reading of actual speed .Crazy Harry wrote:You can use this site to compare tyre sizes and the impact on the accuracy of your speedo

I always upsize my BMW rubber from OEM sizes & on every occasion its made the speedo more accurate . on our C Class it already came with proper sized tyres so 245 40 rears 225 45 fronts on 8j & 8.5j & speedo is with 1mph accuracy . BMWs i have tried on OEM tyres usually over read by 10% so when it says you are doing 30mph its actually 27mph

I was thinking more of the impact of changing sizes on the current speedo reading rather than the original accuracy but happy to take your point.

I agree its always worth checking how things are affected if wheels/tyres have been changed from the original spec but whilst i use the sites for reference i would never take their numbers as final far too many speed cameras so its better to have the actual speed of the car confirmed by GPS

Thanks for all the feedback chaps i will let you know how i get on. Think i may go for the 40's on the rear if there are no major side affects, as at least they will fill the arch a bit more- its not a lowered car.
I use an app on my phone called ibolt dock n drive to give easy access to music, phone calls etc when driving. Its main benefit though is the massive electronic gps speedo and compass on the main screen, it keeps the speed in my eyeline in big orange numbers.
