18's or 19's

Post by Crabbo » Thu Feb 23, 2017 7:46 am

Hi everyone as above,

I like the look of 19's but am concerned that the uk roads are terrible.

Has anyone got any pics of 18x8.5 and 18x9.5?

Preferable csl reps?

And tire sizes for this size wheel that will not scrub ?

Thanks in advance

I've got half an eye on going back to 18" because the ride on 19s is firm to say the least. However, I wouldn't get 18" CSL reps, I think they definitely look much better as 19s.
Z4R 3.0si Sport auto. So far: 19" CSLs, Eibachs, MM exhaust tips, de-badged rear, stubby, black grilles, spacers, aux cable, interior LEDs, LED boot strip......

Aren't wheel sizes above 18" more prone to cracking, also it would appear a harsher ride the larger you go from what I've read. So I guess its a choice between bling and practicality.

That seems to be the case. The 19's look so nice but I don't want the misery of punctures and huge tyre costs.

Think I'm going for csl avante gaurdes

Whereabouts are you located ? If at all possible its worth trying out 19s before throwing big money into a set , there's a few current owners who have tried different sets of wheels now so should be able to offer advice ( jamiez4 / z4pilot are 2 )
Imo the Si coupe is far less forgiving than a roadster & does not ride at all well on 19s :o they look great i agree but there is a trade off in both ride & steering feel that the roady somehow gets away :? most likely the coupe being fixed roof & therefore far stiffer
If you do go the 19 route i would be keeping stock suspension & try to get as much rubber profile as poss
I ran my last E85 19s with 225 40 19 fronts & 255 35 19 rears & felt no difference from the 18s it arrived on

I think I'm going to go 18,

The tyres I've bought the car on are 225 40 18 and 255 35 18 nearly new Vredestein Ultrac

The wheels I've decided on are 18x8.5 18x9.5 et 35 front et 40 rear do you think that will all be okay Mr Wilks ?

Going to get coilovers soon as well so will drop it a fair bit to fill the arches

I think they will be fine with or without a drop ( just be wary of the front tyre size )
Also worth doing one thing at a time & drive the car in between to get to know if it feels "right" then if not its easier to highlight the cause if you find it doesn't feel settled or planted at speeds

You wont be dissapointed with those tyres. I run the same on mine, they get a thumbs up from many forum members.
