Time to ditch the RFTs

Post by benv6 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 8:24 pm

Hi Guys,

Looking to replace my RFTs soon and would like some advice on what sizes I should go for, I will be going for the GY F1 but not too sure if I should stick with the OEM size and what would be the benefits of changing them ?

at the moment im on 296s ..... 255 30 19 rear & 225 35 19 front

I've seen people on here go for 265 30 19 rear and 235 35 19 front - works out as 6/7mm diameter change, or ~1.1% according to here: www.etyres.co.uk/how-to-change-your-tyre-size/ - they recommend you don't exceed a 2.5% change.

So you get a little bit extra tyre wall (so should be less firm) and also more contact patch due to wider tyres, but you're effectively increasing the gearing and the tyres will probably be slightly more expensive.

How much difference it makes in the real world, who knows. Unlikely to be night and day.
Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better
