Nice new tyres fitted but unpleasant surprise

Post by Glyn » Fri Nov 11, 2011 3:16 pm

Had a lovely fresh pair of PS2s fitted to the rear of the Roadster today but as they were being fitted I noticed one of the springs was broken :(

I've booked it in with Sytner for Monday morning and will see whether or not warranty covers it or if it's classed as wear and tear.

I suspect that they'll put it down as wear and tear

As far as I know springs are covered under BMW warranty... I certainly had mine replaced just before the 3 years were up.

annoying but springs do snap - and not just on the z4's - my mothers SLK has had 2 break as well.

doubt warranty will cover it but you never know.

The Sytner reservations chap thought it could go either way as claimable or not, depending on if it is diagnosed as a manufacturing defect or not. We will see :|

On a lighter note, is it weird to quite like the smell of new tyres? :D :?

Sorry, didn't pick up on the age of the car... no the warranty will not cover it, you may get a good will gesture but that is a different matter. Good luck though, there seems to be no consistency between cases in terms of good will gestures...

If it was work that was under warranty, during the warranty period, then why was it "good will"? I think it's just semantics though, work that is not covered under the warranty agreement being done "good will" is not "warranty" in my mind, although they could say they "cover it under warranty".

Cheers for the good luck, it's worth a try anyway. Not had to claim anything on the warranty yet so it will be interesting to see what they say.

I've never had a spring break before, it doesn't seem like something that should be normal wear and tear at least not in the general sense of the phrase, shocks yes but for a spring to actually snap doesn't seem like normal wear and tear to me. I don't doubt that BMW and their Warranty company see it differently to me.
