Avon ZV7s?

Post by Ianam » Fri Jun 24, 2016 9:33 pm

Needing replacement tyres for the FLTs, and having just spent £800 on a service, am looking for a reasonably priced tyre... Avons are in budget and, or so I've heard. do well in the wet. Has anyone else had experience of them?

Ive had all the above tyres & for the money they are all way over average performers , myself I would stump the extra £30 on the Vreds , followed by the Unis then the Kumho's , can't comment on the ZV7s as never tried them

Avon say on their website the ZV7 is a high performance summer tyre with A grade wet grip.

I have used ZV5s on previous cars and am currently running ZZ5s on my Zed and have found them both to be excellent tyres. The ZV7 is brand new so no reports I can find on them yet but as it supersedes the ZV5 I don't see any reason why it should not be as good if not better.

Have also had all 3 of the above tyres, albeit on different cars with different performance levels so hard to compare, but have to second Mr Wilks in terms of rating.

Am currently running the Uniroyal Rainsport 3's on the front of my Z4 coupe after a recommendation from a friend with a BMW M135i. Great tyre for British roads and our awful weather, but even with my lack of driving ability the tyres feel a little soft and on a nice sunny day on a grippy surface, the tread moves around a little too much when pushed hard. Maybe that's to do with the 19" size or my driving style, but it means the car doesn't inspire the same confidence as I had with the Avon ZZ5 they replaced. The Avon's on the rear have plenty of bite in summer, but not as good as the Uni's in the wet.

Brother has the Vreds on his Integra Type R, and I love the feel of them, so much better than the stock Bridgestones it came with.

All good points above , what I would break it down to is cost V performance & if the Vreds are the same ,cheaper or even a few £ over the Avon's then I would buy Vreds , , , but that's based on previous use & can't compare the Avon's to know if they are on a par

Currently have a pair of 235 40 19 P Zero on the front of my E89 , not at all bad in first 1500miles :driving:
quiet , grippy (on dry or damp roads) & by no means hard riding . Can't comment on rear grip/handling cause not tried
£260 rolling seems fair enough for a big name on 4 tyres

Ive run (and still am) ZV5s on the DS3 and have no complaints... they replaced continental contisport contact 5's so I was expecting a downgrade, but I cant tell the difference...
