Hood problem!
Hi everyone.
I've had my brand new Z4 2.0i SDrive for just two weeks and have had an intermittent issue when trying to put the hood down in that it gets part way down (the same point every time) and gets stuck and just won't go any further.
Until today I've been able to put it back up and then down again and all's been fine.
However, this morning it just wouldn't get past that certain point so I gave up.
Tonight on leaving work I thought I'd give it another try. Yet again it got stuck at the same point but this time I couldn't put it back up!!! It was stuck halfway up and halfway down!!!
Eventually with a bit of coaxing I managed to get the hood back up and drove home.
It's now booked in to BMW next week to get it sorted but I just wondered if anybody else had had a similar issue and/or knows what the problem might be?
Thanks,
H

Re: Hood problem!
It's a sensor issue for sure Helen, hasn't happened many times with E89's on here, but dealer is the best place for it. Let us know how you get on, and post some pics up of your car when you get it back

Re: Hood problem!
Mine did exactly the same although it was during the cold weather. Dealer said it was sensors. They ended up keeping it two days so they could the the fix worked after it had been left out all night. The dealer also managed to leave the roof tray assembly loose so I had to go back for that to be re-assembled (although they did that in 15 minutes while I had a coffee).

Would be interesting to know which sensor failed, see if there is a common trend.
Especially for those of us out of warranty.

I was mortified when it happened and it's just typical that the weather this week is glorious!!!

I know, there is nothing worse than having a convertible in super sunny weather and you can't put it down. I had a new roof fitted to my last car just as we got an Indian summer and when it's a fabric bad boy you have to leave if up for a month to ensure it's stretched to the car properly. At least no issues once fixed with a folding tin top.

Re: Hood problem!
Well, it seems that the problem was me rather than the car!!!
The only problem they could find was a misplaced first aid kit!! i.e. it was in the side section of the boot which interfered with the operation of the roof!!
How stoooopid did I feel!!???
At least I've got it back and can get my top down again!!!

Maybe you should put the first aid kit in the glovebox to stop it's pesky interference of your roof

Re: Hood problem!
Are you aware of the little storage compartment in the rear left of boot.
Its big enough for the first aid kit and a flourescent jacket.
