I'm guessing a 987.2 given the well documented problems with the 987.1.

I really enjoyed my 987 and would defiantly have another one all be it with a good warranty and a through inspection, my only comment would be that it can be a little to capable and lacks the "spark" of the ///M.

Cheers guys!

So my circumstances have changed a little since the original post. I got a new job with a significant pay increase which is great and now only 3 miles away from our house no more huge commutes!

With the new job and an impending first house purchase I decided to change my route and wanted to get something that is a great sports car but nothing that will break the bank and something the GF will enjoy too! Another issue is I have set my heart on a 981 Cayman S, so decided to buy something for the interim maybe 18-24 months until we are settled enough to look at a bigger jump.

Decided to keep the gfs Clio as its a great commuter and is doing av 81mpg so it costs nothing to run and buy something fun just for the weekend that won't break the bank! So after Birmingham Classic Car Show I decided I wanted a 986... after a few test drives they felt quite antiquated and good ones were as much as 987s, then found this 987 and bought it the next day. Bit of an impulse but negotiated a fantastic price about £1000 cheaper than the cheapest in the country with a good spec for the age all the others were flimper at the same price range. It has Bose, nav, heated electric seats, sensors, new windscreen, Lobster 19"s which ive always been a huge fan of - paintwork is great.

I actually decided the 3.2 was a better option for me than the 3.4 with there being barely any difference in performance but less worries with bore scoring. In terms of the IMS it also has the single row bearing which is easier to replace as the engine doesn't need cracking open to get to compared to the dual row of the 06 and above cars. Its an early car being an 05, took mr wilkes advice about buying something with a little more mileage that's been looked after. It has 77k so is a little leggy and it does need some tlc which I'm very much looking forward to doing! Getting my hands mucky is something I want to do. It also means I can be less precious about it because its the GFs first experience in anything of this sort of calibre so is a great introduction I thought. Plus the tax is in the smaller bracket being £295.

I also have it booked into Strausse on Saturday for a full Inspection to see whether there is anything pressing. The wheels need a refurb and needs new centre caps, leather and roof needs some attention. Had it just shy of two week now! Have to say I'm really chuffed with it, side step but completely different animal but the roof down experience is something I have definitely been missing out on!!! Its really invigorating!

One thing I will say is the composure is in a different league and the ride is sublime, but I miss the all out brute power of the Z4Mc it is very predictable which I like but also think I will grow out of. But at less than half the price I am very very happy with it. I decided to go with one because I didn't really want to downgrade in the Z4 world because I think I would have wished I had waited for another M. Plus I think I needed to do something different! Lifes too short to stay in your comfort zone. Also although the 3.0 and SI Z4 variants are roughly the same performance they don't feel similar, little vague. The little differences like the hydraulic steering giving it the sports car feel of the Z4M.

I only have dealer images and I'm at work so will post some later.

I have done some work already I have replaced the rear numperplate lights with LEDs and I have wirebrushed all of the wheel bolts as they were looking pretty nasty! Made a huge improvement!

Next thing to do is to sort out some way of getting my iPhone attached to the PCM2.0 as it is complete cr*p. Denison 500BT or a pioneer apple car play system I think. Because of the Bose all options are expensive... £600-1000 so I was thinking il go with the Denison and give installing it myself a go!

Cheers All!
