Z4M Coupe current market value

Post by Kenster » Thu Sep 28, 2017 10:06 pm

Ok this could be a sensitive one and yes i am looking to buy a Z4M Coupe as a weekend car and something to polish and cherish. I've been watching the markets for a while now. There seems to be (somewhat obviously) two distinct camps which trend towards the M Coupe owners and non M, the difference being most N52 (3.0Si) owners are selling to buy an M or other car or just move on, most are pricing to sell.

Whereas it seems most owners (not wanting to tar all with the same brush) of the M coupe have bought as an investment or selling to make profit on their investment.
That's all good however and why not, but, when it comes to pricing to sell, the prices seem somewhat over ambitious for some relatively high in mileage. I know and agree sooner or later these cars will go up but none are selling at the moment as they seem to be pitched around ''what im hoping for otherwise ill sit on it. ' And not priced to sell and that is their prerogative!

Look at M Roadsters, they are priced way lower and more around market value, some relative steals around 13-14k mark. That will get you a Cat-C MCoupe with some spare change, although, for the prudent long term speculator i would say that's currently one of the best deals, as in years to come Cat-C wont matter a bit (when few are left look at Mk1 RS Turbo Escorts) when its backed up with a respectable engineer report with to indicate all is good, thats if you like Silver! Youll be sitting on a (potentially) mint 44k miler which in Mcoupe current estimations a small fortune ;)

If you go to parkers/What car and type in value for an excellent condition 78k Miler M Coupe its valued here:

Buy from dealer £16,300
Buy/Sell privately £14,344
Part exchange £14,050
Trade auction value £12,926

I see a similar private seller same mileage of an MCoupe on Autotrader for around 18.5k ! I saw 2 Silver M Coupes on here recently neither could shift around the 15.5k mark. Especially when you look around at what else you can buy for 18k, alot of nice cars. Either Parkers have it really wrong or..theyre just not shifting due to the time of year.

Anyway they're a beautiful car/engine all the same and hope many of these stunning examples stay around as long as possible.

Much sense written apart from the suggestion that there have been 2 x 78k ZMcoupes ( silver ) struggle to sell on forum around £15500 :?
One was actually 75k £17750 & sold within a couple of weeks , the other i assume is this 8ok one at £17500 :? viewtopic.php?f=41&t=100060
£15500 for a ZMC under 100k would court some demand i suspect & £16k would create attention

And then compare it to the market value of the m3 e46 (which is arguably the better car), there's a big step for many of the same internals.
They're even cheaper than 3.0 coupes on pistonheads. But then the insurance was ridiculous for me

If you are selling any car via Autotrader (or indeed buying) you simply put the registration and mileage and it will give you the private sale figure. I am also looking for a MCoupe and have valued cars for sale in this way and found that the Autotrader cars for sale are for sale at very near to the Autotrader valuations.

Mileage makes a big difference to the valuations on Autotrader which look fairly realistic to me in most cases. What you have to bear in mind is that cars can sell for below or above 'book' valuations dependent on the state of the market.
Also no two cars are identical and when you are talking about 9 to 11 year old cars there can be a great difference in history, condition and even colour can make a big difference to the right person.

Asking price can also depend on how quickly the seller needs the cash. If a dealer has a 16,000 mile MCoupe for example, they know that they have something that is very rare and possibly they can afford to wait for the right person to come along and pay a high asking price.

Why is this in the for sale section :?

Cars are worth what people are willing to pay. 3 of the 75+k milage cars were taken off because of lack of interest/deciding to keep including the silver one.

Saying that it would seem that they are loosing the initial 'buy to profit' interest, been more cars for sale recently than there has for a long time with decent prices these prices have also stabilised with many being reduced. The sticker is never the sale price.

Like I said worth what people are willing to pay with 550 odd examples and say the possibility of 20% have been written off or Cat C/D or exported to other right hand drive countries it doesnt leave a lot. Making these a bit of a bargain for their rarity.

Sellers will quickly realize that they are too expensive especially when compatible to dealers where you will get some kind of piece of mind/buyer protection. People arent stupid.

Agree that you there are a lot of other cars you can buy for £18K but that's not the point. Either you want an M Coupe or you buy one of those other cars.

Ive only seen 1 silver M coupe for sale on here at £15250 and that was taken off the market after 2 weeks. If it hadn't I would have been interested.

I do want an M Coupe but like you i have my own opinion of what they are currently worth at real time market value. For example.. just watched two Z4MC's tonight on ebay

Z4MC Black 75kmiles looked absolutely mint Cat C (or cat S now ) Sold 12,000

Felt a dip in my stomach about the black one, in hindsight i really could of sat on that esp at the mileage, in 10years time Cat S less important a good buy for someone that.

Z4MC Interlagos blue 107k miles FDSH 12,200 didnt sell reserve not met.. so you could grab yourself a bargain!

I was the high bidder on the blue one. Its a small dealer testing the market or trying to market the car another way and getting an auction going. I had bid thousands more but the reserve was still not reached, however the car is still for sale in Lichfield for £17,900 and priced too high for 107K miles. I would want a car with half the mileage for that price.

There's another cat C 47,000mile Z4MC on Autotrader for £12,500 Could be the car for you! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... 500&page=1

If you use Ebay you should know that in all Ebay auctions only the last bid is shown, Ebay does not show the high bidders maximum you only find that out by bidding over it.

Obviously I'm not going to say how much but I know what I'd be prepared to pay. Not several thousands but I can assure you £12,200 was nowhere near my maximum.

The cat C with 47,000 miles at £12,500 on the link above is in my opinion a better bet than the one with 75,000 miles sold for £12,000 on Ebay. Like you said if you keep it a long time and dont mind cat C then there's a saving of around £5000.
