Wanted Z4 Coupe, 3.0 Auto, Grey ideally

Post by Jimnic007 » Sat Sep 09, 2017 5:06 pm

Afternoon all,

I am new to the forum and have been reading as a non-member with interest all the helpful topics that are covered here.

I am about to get rid of my company car and change it for a Z4 Coupe and I have been searching on here, Pistonheads and Auto Trader for cars that suit my spec requirements, which are:

Z4 Coupe
Grey ideally
Auto
Black or red leather
Lowish miles (sub 70,000)

Nice to haves:
Cruise control
Sat nav
Xenons
CSL type wheels
Telephone prep
Sub £10,000

There are two on Autotrader at the moment, one at £10,000 and one just over £12,000. Are these cars known to the forum and if so, how do they both look to those in the know?

Thanks in advance,
James

Hmmm :erm: first one clearly been a forum car at some point as it has MachineMonkey exhaust tips amongst other "trinkets"
Pretty basic spec for the ask but miles are quite a bit down on average so ask yourself are you buying those miles at a premium ?
Second car ? Pics are so photoshopped the car looks stratus grey but i dont think it is :P lovely trim but for me the alu needs to be off & blacked at the very least .
As for paying £12k right now for a 60k E86 auto  makes me queasy just thinking about it

Agree ive been watching Z4's for a while now and none of them are shifting at current prices. Only one snatched up and that was a Silver Grey Si Sport Coupe 78k miles for 8600 on Ebay (albeit manual) looked in good nick also. 12k far too high in current market, confidence is low for some reason.

If it helps I sold my 2008 z4 coupe si for £12k low mileage at 34,000 most of your requirements but in sapphire black. Dont think I could find another easily though as most of the low mileage ones seem to be with dealers at the moment

a 3.0Si auto would better a ZMC in the real world to 60mph with 99% of us forumites behind the wheel  they are a potent tool for the ££ invested

£12K is top money for a coupe, but the auto is a rare car. This car is for sale at Sytner in Newport and may suit OP. If you could get it for £11, 500 or less it will have 12 months BMW warranty and will have Full BMW service history so could be at worth at least £1K plus over the odds for an immaculate car with the BMW warranty. After all what price is peace of mind on a 10 year old car, and this car will have had a full check over at BMW.

Thanks for all your responses so far.

Whilst I agree that it would be nice to have the Warranty from BMW on the Sytner vehicle, it is three years older than the one on Autotrader but the same price.

It seems that the general consensus of the board is that I should be able to get what I want for £10,000 but sellers are hoping for more at the moment.

I would take a black car as well if anyone spots something out there.

Cheers,
James

Good point James.

Also looking a Z4's myself and whether its a 8 or 11 year old car doesn't make a great deal of difference to me. Mileage, condition & history are the main factors though not necessarily in that order.

Also for me the colour of the interior is a big plus and I like the red/black interior. But as you say you can get a very nice car with a reasonable mileage for under £10k private sale, so £12.400 private sale is stretching it a bit.

The top link is my old z, Gp56cfn. Traded it in on February this year. Was an amazing car and miss it. Looks like it's had bits done like an after market stereo and black badges.

FWIW OP I don't think too many E86s were sold as autos.

Based on numbers supplied by another forum member less than 2,500 3.0Si E86s came to the UK.

Out of those 340 were Silver Grey, 145 were Stratus Grey and 38 were Space Grey so there aren't going to be a huge number of autos around! Although I see you would consider black, and there were about 800 of those in 4 different blacks - so that may make your search a bit easier!

I've just noticed you don't specify whether you want an SE or a Sport, so you may want to think about that.

Mechanically they are the same but the Sport has slightly lower and stiffer suspension, different wheel options and crucially different seats!

Rather confusingly SE models got Sport seats, but Sport models got M-Sport seats. :?

The 2 you posted links for have the M-Sport seats, but this is what a Sport seat looks like:-

Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Thanks for your responses, and it is good to know the first car was on the forum.

I would prefer the sport version in grey or black, so will continue to keep my eye out for a nice looking, reasonable mileage version.

Thanks again,
James

This might not be grey, but it looks a nice car. Again a bit pricey, but all of the autos with lower miles seem to be over £11,000 asking at the moment. Anyone know this car...

It doesn't appear to have Nav like the second car on Autotrader above and the interior is nicer on that one, but it is a dealer car and therefore has some come back I guess.....

You wouldn't be missing out on anything by buying a Z4 without nav - it's terrible as nav by modern standards, and without it the dash looks much nicer (cleaner) and it's easier to replace the head unit if you want to put a modern unit in, e.g. for DAB etc.

Chris,
That's very interesting, as I would really like DAB and expect most phone sat nav is more up to date nowadays!
I presume DAB could be installed in a nav car, via Autodab or some other system?
Would cruise control be a fairly easy retrofit on a later car?
Thanks,
James
