Little miss on acceleration

Post by Any1else » Sat Aug 12, 2017 2:40 pm

Just noticed over the past week that the car stutters a bit when I apply power until it warms up. Car starts fine and idles/drives okay but when I accelerate there is a little miss before it picks up. When it's under power it is fine and when the engine warms up the hesitancy disappears. Anything obvious?

Mine does a little bit 2.0 one though . Changed plugs noticed a little oil very tiny amount in the mast spark plug well . Seem to have a tiny amount of oil seeping from rocker cover gasket don't know if that maybe causes a slight rough idle and very slight stutter . I just take my time and once warmed its fine .

Yeah, its not too bad but I can feel it when the car is still to heat up. Like you say it isnt there when the car is warm so I might check my hoses are ok and also check for a wee oil leak. Wondered if it could be DISA linked but mine was replaced 4 years (15k miles) ago. Not sure when the start giving problems and whether it gives those symptoms.

Cheers for replying

Same on mine, turned out to be the valvetronic! It just died giving the EML fault and going into limp mode :(

Had been driving like a dream although a deffo flat spot at around 3500 revs through the gear range.

But it is not quite as bad as it sounds. Valvertronic & rocker cover gasket replacement and only 1 Hours labour £404.10 all in (genuine BMW parts)

Vavetronic = £208.41

Rocker gasket = £83.34.

Labour = £45.00

B@$TARD VAT = £67.36 :x

Cheers, tug :thumbsup:

Cheers tug. Did it throw up an error code? Might just get it booked in to get checked.

If its the valvetronic, it will cough up code 2A67.

Trouble is this is all speculaton without hooking up a scanner to have a look.

I stuck a code reader on it but it came up with No Codes.

I havent no. I had dismissed these because the miss is only present when the car is cold. If the fault lay with a coil or plug, surely the miss would be there all the time?

If I was to check them - how would I do it? (other than visually)?

Always worth checking regardless IMO, I have read threads previously where people had damaged internal wiring on their leads as well but checking that isnt easy!

Found this video for testing Coil Packs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcmWa2Bt12U

And this one for the sparks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWyle41XO_k

Could also be injectors or Valvetronic as mentioned before

These types of problems can be a pain in the ass to find given their variable nature :headbang:

Hmm thats nothing really, hopefully it is something simple!
Kind of a shame the ECU isnt throwing out a code at least it would help ID the problem

Stuck Carly on it and get a DMTL leak code 0027C3 and a bit of googling points to the DMTL pump but I wouldnt think it would give these symptoms. Got a DSC code 005E5C but again I wouldnt assume this would give me the issue that I have.

Might just take it to an indy and get them to check it on their system. MOT in two weeks anyway so two birds with one stone!

Those shouldnt cause an issue like this no, def worth getting an indy to check it out, engine hesitation issues always give me the fear as its easy for them to get a lot worse or cause other issues :(
