Carver Lear dsp amp problem!!

Post by Imaginationcreations » Wed Jun 07, 2017 5:25 pm

Hi all, I have a 2003 z4 with the carver Lear dsp amp in it, the first amp failed and I purchased one off eBay to replace it. I haven't used the car for a while and have put the second amp in and it is draining the car battery over night! Is this fixable? Failing that does anybody know of a replacement available? Oh and returning the amp in not an option as I purchased it a year ago!!

Thanks

Chris

Maybe try a new battery?

Or just upgrade the AMP to an Alpine unit, that way you can upgrade the head unit too

alpine head unit is £400-£600 depending on price fluctuations and retailers.

the carver amp sells for £200 on ebay even when it's a 14 year old amp with no warranty. i know i'd rather pay £400 for a brand new amp than £200 for a 14 year old one.

your navi setup will be at least a decade out of date. i don't like built in sat navs for this very reason. smartphones are always up to date and you always have one on you anyway. plus you can use it for blutooth stuff, etc. sure built in is sleeker but it's so expensive and cumbersome and expensive to update making it pointless to me.

could be literally anything most die from water damage. it's 14 years old. how long do you think an amp should last?

i know i upgrade the amp in my home cinema setup every 5 years even though it's not died just to get more modern features.

i wouldnt mind getting rid of the whole setup and replacing it a single din setup as long as it works from the steering wheel and it's got bluetooth and aux in. anyone know of any tried and tested solutions?

anything will work. all you need is aftermarket looms. it's an expensive job though.

mine has bluetooth (2 phones at the same time), DAB, aux in, plus 100's of other modern features.

buy the looms. buy a decent pioneer head unit. get the alpine amp plus manual crossovers. then take it to a specialist and he will provide what wiring is needed. make sure they re-wire it all too at the same time.
