Known design issue with the N52 upper oil galleries. The oil can drain down from the HVAs when you stop and doesn't always correctly re-charge straight away when the engine is started again (probably partial air locking). BMW eventually modified the design of the cylinder head.
As suggested above, adopting an enthusiastic approach to acceleration is apparently the best way to make the noise go away. It's not just temp related so if you have a light right foot the noise can remain present even with a warm engine.
