I was concerned about my lack of use of Red (only use about 2/3 times per week) and my upcoming holibobs, so I discussed this with my best mate, (motor engineer) who said that it would take a couple of weeks for the oil to drain completely away, so a few days or even a week without use wouldn't be a major issue. He did say that after a week of non-use, I should start the engine and let it idle for 2-3 minutes to get the oil pressure up, then drive as per usual i.e. wait for normal operating temperature levels before, and I quote, "kicking it's head in". It's the repeated short journeys that are the worst, so I use the wife's Volvo. Failing that, I have a bike and backpack.E86montego wrote:Seems logical! I toyed with the idea of having a second car to eliminate the shorter journeys, but would it do more harm leaving the Z4 un driven for consecutive days?
*edit* he did also confirm that the noise isn't actually harmful to the engine. Something about the gap causing the noise could be less than a mm ... I glazed over a bit after that ... O_O
