Yikes !!!
How often do you advise owners to check this valve mechanism? Are there any tell tale signs that is about to fail?

The upgrade takes away the pin in the end, so only needs doing once.

"16 Upgrade kit" - what is this and where can I view/buy one?Msb wrote:Wrong they can find their way out its well documented and once you've had it happen to you, your tune will changeEdButler wrote:That pin cant just 'fall out' in the inlet mani - it is pushed against the wall (i checked when i inspected mine). The only way these will likely fail is plastic fatigue/cracking.
And yes it happened to me on my 330 ci so am speaking from experience, don't leave it to chance if in any doubt change it or fit the I6 upgrade kit

Re: DISA valve replaced (just in time?)
I looked at the above eBay advert and clicked on the compatability link and it said "Does not fit BMW Z4 2003 Convertible 2.5i". Has anybody fitted one of these kits to an early 2.5i Z4 and, if so, which one did you buy? Please advise. Thanks.

Ordered mine a few days ago.
To check condition of yours, try this:
Warm engine running at tick over. Have a listen at the disa area. If you're getting a rattly/tractor type sound the paddle is probably lose in the bell housing. On the disa unit is an electrical connector, pull it of. If there is no change in sound from the unit, yours is probably working OK.
