Replacement Roof Motor Guy!!

Post by williez4 » Mon May 05, 2014 12:06 pm

I wanted to put a message on here for anyone who needs a new roof motor supplied and fitted for £550!! I bought my Z4 a couple of weeks ago and the day after purchase the roof motor packed up :( Thanks to this forum a user named bowser134 said that he could supply and fit a new one for. £500 (I had the wiring changed too for an extra £50) This guy is AMAZING!! I dropped it off to him yesterday @ 9am and it was all done and ready to collect by 3pm. He sent me various pictures during different stages of the job so I knew what was being done, I have a 2 year warranty invoice for the motor and am a VERY happy guy!! This guy has 10 years BMW experience and will also service yr BMWs & Minis, I can't recommend him highly enough!!!

It's possible drill a little hole to the motor cover to avoid flooded? or make bigger the drain?

I'm bookmarking this as well

What do you mean "I had the wiring changed too for an extra £50" please?, also It looks like a small hole has been drilled at the bottom of where the motor would sit, is that correct?

Camberley is very do-able from me should I need it & thanks for posting this up.

Ive seen motor housings drilled before by specialists but all it means is that the water gets into the motor quicker.

Hi Tony,

The wiring loom contacts that connects to the motor can get very corroded where it sits in water so as a precaution i recommend replacing it to avoid any poor connections.

The small hole shown on the bodywork is the existing drain hole that gets blocked with debris and fills up with water. Ive just shown a before and after pic where ive flushed through the debris by removing the lower drain bung.

£500.00!!! :o That makes me want to cry. My motor was replaced at the local dealer about a month ago. Quoted £900.00 which included the motor, new housing and labour. A lot of money but I called a couple of reputable Indy garages but neither wanted to take the job on. So I figured take it to BMW they know what there doing and I have the backup of a two years parts and labour warranty. Couple of days after dropping the car off they called to say part of the loom needed replacing due to water damage. Extra labour and parts brought total bill to £1300. I Wish I'd known about this guy then. Even with fuel from North Yorkshire down to Surrey and a hotel bill I'd still have been quids in :headbang:

Sorry to hear this :(

Im surprised they charged you an extra £400 seeing as the wiring is roughly £50 and basically have to remove it when changing the motor hence why I dont charge any labour for doing this.
