Hydraulic Lifters
Had a problem this morning where the hydraulic lifters were noisy.
Called local dealer who advised calling BMW breakdown in case driving caused more damage.
BMW breakdown were with the car 10 minutes and advised that it was just due to car not being driven for a week. But said to keep an eye on it.
Anybody else had this problem (2006 2.5si). If so how do you advise dealing with it:
1. let it idle
2. drive cautiously
Dealer is keen to know if it does happen again, and I have advisedthat I am not going to use it for a week in a months time, but any comments you have are welcome.

Update for you sooner than expected.
Did it again this morning after 3.5 miles still to noisy for my liking so called BMW breakdown. Engineer phoned to say he wasn't coming as the car was drive-able. (The dealer is only half a mile from where i live), but again i didn't want to drive further than necessary as the noise could lessen.
Anyway he came out in the end, and took for drive probably past the dealer, but would not deliver to the dealer. My wife couldn't take the car as we have 2.5 year old twins and I was at work.
I got the impression from my wife that he was sitting on the fence regarding the tappet noise, however he did point out a whirring noise which i had noticed that sounds like a supercharger.
Anyway dealer has now collected and BMW Breakdown have provided courtesy car (no cost, unlike one from the dealer)
So waiting to here from dealer with there findings. Have suggested they keep the car overnight in the hope it will be worse again in the morning.
