Brake warning lights??
Over the past week 3 yellow warning lights have come up on my dashboard and then disappeared ?? It's the traction control light , the ABS light and the yellow handbrake light . According to the manual it's a warning for the brake malfunction something to do with driving aids malfunctioning. Three times the light has come on then gone off. :/ I've noticed no difference in braking performance... I'm baffled... It's booked in to the local garage tomorrow morning but just wandered has anyone's Z done this before and what might be the cause???
Cheers

Strangely for me I had low pressure in my drivers rear tyre and that seemed to be the culprit. I was getting these lights come on every time I drove for a round 3 weeks before I decided to check tyre pressures...lol
It can also be a dodgy sensor somewhere

In particular, be sure there isn't crud around the ABS sensor, the fronts in particular. Crud attenuates the signal it's supposed to sense.Dogmatic6 wrote:It can also be a dodgy sensor somewhere

Re: Brake warning lights??
So the cars been into the garage and... It's not good news
Error code
5DF0 hydraulic pump motor
5DF1 undocumented code
According to the local garage it's a big job and they don't have the equipment to re program the unit once fitted .. So it looks like its either going to BMW or a specialist ... Has anyone had this happen to their car? Is it a common problem ie BMW contribute to the cost of repair?

Re: Brake warning lights??
Gutted for you.
"undocumented code" -- how helpful.
Grasping at straws, but all the control module can sense is various electrical signals are normal or not. It can't physically "see" an actual defect in a motor, only that the electrical characteristics are not normal. Meaning locate all related electrical connectors, disconnect, examine for damage, dirt, moisture, etc. Reconnect and hope that does something. Long shot, but worth a try, cheaper than a pump motor.
Also, see if you can invoke the ABS operation on a dirt or gravel road, or even a wet, sealed road. If it works, I wouldn't be in a hurry to replace the pump without more evidence.

Re: Brake warning lights??
Think the fault codes are red herrings here - get a diagnostic done at a BMW dealer or specialist to get to the real fault . Still might just be an ABS sensor.

Re: Brake warning lights??
I had these lights - in my case it was triggered after changing the steering rack and the dealer forgot to reset the steering sensor ...,
Hope it works out for you

Re: Brake warning lights??
It's booked into Hughes brothers BMW specialists in Derby. They came across very knowledgeable over the phone and said the abs sensors were very prone to go on Bmws so hopefully it's just a sensor. Booked in for 4/10 as that was the earliest appointment. Fingers crossed theres not too much damage to the wallet
Cheers for the replies.

Re: Brake warning lights??
So .... It's grim news..
Garage have had the car in today and concluded that its a hydraulic pump failure along with failure in the modulator. To fix its 1400 for the part plus labour .. So gutted
I noticed that DrNick (forum member) had this problem and had 80% funded by BMW so ill be in contact with him as to how they managed that ...

Re: Brake warning lights??
It's been taken to Sytner Nottingham who have confirmed the same fault .. Given an a quote of £2072 to fix. I've requested they ask BMW for a contribution ...
A week later Sytner ring to deliver the good news ... BMW have made a good will gesture of paying 80% of the part leaving me with a bill of £550 .. RESULT!! Still a bit gutted I have to fork that out but it's a lot better than £2072.
So if anyone's in the same boat with the dsc module fault. It's worth a go!

Re: Brake warning lights??
Hi
I have the same codes and lights on dashboard with my 07 Z4. Going to have to send to dealer. How did you manage to get the price reduction?
Thanks
Roy
