Battery died now AC won't work!

Hi,

The battery in my 2008 coupe recently died after 2-3yrs use. Am in Dubai so hot weather hurts batteries so I understand. Anyway, I got a jump start from recovery guy and drove it for 15 minutes. The AC would not work in that time. I replaced the battery as car would not start. Went for a cheaper make rather than BMW one as they wanted to charge me equivalent of 450 UK pounds(!). Car started straight away, radio worked etc but AC stuill doesnt work. BMW say that the fuse had gone so they replaced it but it blew again.

So my questions are...

1) Being as the AC wouldnt work prior to new battery being fitted, surely it cant be due to the new battery?

2) What could be causing the car to blow the fuses?

3) Could it invalidate the warranty having a none-BMW battery?

AC was working fine the day before.

Advice much appreciated.

My battery recently went flat on an overnight ferry trip, after getting a jump start had the same problem. Its little brain goes into delivery or transit mode and had to be reset by my local dealer, they did it for me under warranty. The wonders of modern technology!.

Just re-read your post and did not see the bit about the fuse blowing before posting my reply, so maybe you have a more serious problem, in my case the fuse did not burn out, it only required an EEC reset.

Battery failure during warranty period AND AC failure - why not get this all done under warranty?

Battery is not covered. AC is covered and is with AGMC. Just wanted to know if there was any risk with the fact that I installed a non-BMW battery

Ok I don't really understand why your battery isn't covered under your warranty? Shouldn't that be covered under free maintenance. They cover the brakes and stuff so why wouldn't they cover the battery?? As long as you replaced your battery with an identical voltage/cca/amp rating then you should be fine. Sometimes if you overdue the amps I have heard of the amperage fuses blowing. Now you also said that the A/C didn't work before your battery went dead? And replacing the fuse fixed the problem temporarily. After looking at those things it sounds as though you may have a short of some sorts in the wiring that may be causing the A/C fuse to keep blowing. Less likely it would be simply a bad fuse (just thought maybe you should check the fuse diagram and double check that the proper amperage fuse is in). Or maybe you got a second bad battery? I know that BMWs computer will start shutting things down as power decreases but usually this is not seen unless the alternator is bad because if the battery is bad you will come out and everything usually won't work right hehe. So seriously your culpret is more likely than not in between the connections of the A/C system and the fuse box or something apart of the units moving system. I would just take it into BMW, drop it off, get your free rental, and tell em the A/C isn't working and keeps blowing the fuses that way they will actually look at the unit itself and such beyond the fuse box. GL! 8)

P.S. You might want to go somewhere and have the battery, and alternator checked with one of those little machines.
