Clutch whistle

Hello,

When I pull away from standing still I can hear a whistle the first 5 or 10 meters from beneath the car. It sounds almost like a cikada in the african night (a whistleing sound). In first gear it appears during the clutch pedals journey up and disappears when you take your foot from it but the sound returns for the first meters when you pull away in second gear from slow speed and this time without the clutch pedal being engaged.
Has anyone experienced this phenomen?

Oh sorry!

Perhaps I shall give some information of the car and the distance I have driven it; it's a 2.2 from 2004 with 75000 kilometers on the clock.

Are you sure it isn't an air leak in your induction system?

I had a high pitched whistle, under light acceleration. And it turned out to be a perished air inlet pipe.

maybe just check along the piping from your air filter all the way up to your engine block.

mine was a ribbed "Y" shaped pipe that fed right into the engine.

might be worth checking.

The whistling problem that i had came from loose/faulty bearings in the oil filter housing. Hope this helps.

Might be worth checking.

Hi,

Thankyou for your answers. Normski - the Y pipe you refeer to I have actually recently changed and that whistle was, as you say, of a much higher tone (I shall check though my installation of that pipe once again so I don't have got it wrong). Chariszzz - I recently also changed the oil filter and I thought I screw back the cap in the right way but of course, it's worth to check once again.

At last the problem is solved! It was the belt tensioner on the alternator/ water pump belt. No problem to do it yourself. A quick and rather easy fix with a good result!
