Water inside door

Post by MT94 » Tue Sep 19, 2017 9:03 am

Hi there I took my door panel off today and noticed that there is some water behind the foam membrane where the glass drops in to the door is this normal as I am a little worried as I'm not sure water should be inside the door and don't want my door to start rusting because of it
Cheers

Have you checked your drains are clear? As my drains being clogged up caused my boot to get wet!

The membrane keeps the water to the inside section of the door there should be some drain holes or slots along the bottom edge, if the membrane isn't fitted properly or is split this can lead to water getting in the car and you'd notice wet carpet on the sill

I have just finished patching the membrane up with weather seal as it was pulled off previous to me buying it, I'm really surpised that the water is allowed inbetween the door as I thought it would cause rust and electrical problems.

Obviously, when the window is down, water is going to get in through the gap in the top. Also you can never make a window to panel seal fully watertight as the profile of the glass won't allow it. Therefore the membrane stops water getting into the car, and the drain holes on the bottom allow it out.

Cheers.

As mentioned above, just make sure the membrane is sealed well as it will let in water, I know from experience.
I used this which did the job well https://www.amazon.co.uk/Butyl-Strip-Pa ... B00CQNC8ZY

I will take a picture of mine as I'm gonna take off my driver side door tomorrow morning to make sure the seal is intact
