///M Cruise Control - Myths & Legends Busted - DIY HOW TO!!

Post by dgm » Mon May 15, 2017 3:25 pm

Just fitted mine, excellent instructions on this thread and others. Thank you to srhutch for working this out for the M, I've been considering paying someone to do this since I got the car 10 years ago.

I can't add anything to the instructions but one potential pitfall is when removing the two LCM connector blocks from their holder to check the pin numbers before cutting the wires. I test fitted them without reinserting them in their holder after I'd wired everything up and the bulb warning light came on. After wasting a lot of time checking and double checking my connections, I discovered that I'd bent a couple of pins within the LCM when I test fitted the block. Once they were straightened out everything worked perfectly.

My parts were purchased from Sopers who were first class.

Yeehar!!

Yep I'm up and away - what a useful bit of kit :D :D

Many thanks to all involved but especially hutch - I took along your posts and photos and was told afterwards it was a straightforward job - magic

This is going to be so useful on long transits to fabulous roads - first you've got to get there!

Absolutely - as someone's already said, essential for restricted roads and long transits to those 'special' roads.

Must say the Forum been brilliant in helping me get this sorted and hutch couldn't have been more supportive (useful meeting him at Duxford) - even offered to talk to my 'specialist' - how great is that

I have managed to find after a lot of searching a set of fitting instructions for the c/c.
However it's not that clear. I remember there was a comprehensive guide on here but I cannot find it. Anyone got a copy to send me.
I have a 58 reg 2 ltr and I think it's a N54 engine.
I would appreciate any help

Finally fitted mine today. Thanks Steve - the kit really made things easy. A lot easier than fitting my previous non-M with the OEM retrofit kit, I reckon. :)

Some feedback/questions:

* The install took a couple of hours, from disconnecting the battery to going for a test drive
* What is the length of purple heatshrink around the blue wire for? I threw it away but later ended up using some of my own heatshrink to hold the male/female connectors securely together when bundled with the LCM loom
* The blue wire came up about 30cm too short to follow the existing loom and loom guides all the way from the DME to the steering rack. It might have reached if I'd routed it directly downwards out of the bottom of the X6021 socket instead of up past the plug and into the main bundle of wires, but access was tight
* Great tips re. removing the air vent and dropping the LCM loom down into the footwell while installing!
* How did you connect the violet/yellow and black brown wires under the heatshrink? I wasn't sure whether they would bend without breaking inside (as a spade connector might do, for example, but not a soldered joint), so kept them as straight as possible when tying everything up
2008 Z4MC: heavy wheels | crap suspension | skittish rear end | wobbly engine | not enough induction noise | underwhelming turn in | inconsistent braking | lardy battery | chubby steering wheel
2006 Z4 2.5si: gone
