Z4 badge.

Post by Kingfisher » Tue Aug 29, 2017 2:17 pm

The previous bright spark owner of my 2014 35iS saw fit to bless the boot with an M badge in place of the Z4 one. Every time I look at it I get annoyed but so far haven't plucked up the courage to take it off, in fear of messing it up or scratching the paintwork! Anyway, the time has come! Tell me someone, please, if there's anything different about a 2014 car's badge ... would it be the same as all earlier E89s or even the same as the E86? I've no idea and don't want to fit the wrong one! There are some on E-Bay purporting to be OEM E89 badges but they look exactly the same as those for the E86. Then, when I get one, I'll have to make jolly certain it goes in the right position ... any pics please? I have a habit of sticking stuff on things all wonky and this isn't the sort of thing you can practice! Maybe I should let the memsahib do it? ... any help about the badge shape appreciated.

Edit: I did finally find a pic on page 8 of the Forum Z4 Gallery ... after trawling through a couple of hundred deleted Photobucket pics!

Just take it off and don't add anything, the Z4 e89 a*s looks much better without anything on it (I have removed my Z4 badge)

They seem to look very similar between e89 and e85/6 but they have different part numbers so must be slightly different.
According to real oem the e89 had the same badge for the whole production though.

Thanks Paddy ... I think that's answered my question. That's the same as the one I was looking at which, to be fair, they had listed as E89. I didn't want to fit an E86 one by mistake although they look pretty much the same to me! As for leaving the badge off altogether, I've always been in favour of having the car look as it came out of the factory, ie all the badges on board, no black radiator grilles or wheels or lowered suspension and dodgy exhausts ... but that's just my preference. I like the look of both of yours above and it does make the boot look cleaner but I don't want to turn up at the Aston dealer for a p/ex and have him ask where's the badge!

You mean the option was no badge or an M badge?

No in 2013 when I bought my last one it was a no cost option to have no model badges on your car , I believe they offer this across other models also which is why you quite often see 3 series with no badge on bootlid

Has anybody removed the badges from the 3.0l six pots?

I only ask as I read somewhere that it was something that a lot of folk did in Germany to reduced spec' cars.

No model shame here, I just think it gives a cleaner & less cluttered look to the car

I remember reading that in Germany alot of people remove the AMG / RS / M badges from cars to make them look like a 'regular' car despite being top of the range models. The ultimate sleepers allegedly, apparently thats a big thing over there which I find bizzare lol.

Smartbear that does look good but I'm not going to do it though! Maybe I'd think about it if it was an older car or lower spec! ... :)
