How to reset front brake service E89

I've just had this with my 35i, front pads fine but the service light would not reset. My local Indy checked it and it was a faulty sensor, I think the sensor is around £16 and about 30mins labour.

Chances are the pads have been changed and not the sensor.

Reset requires a diag tool on E89..

Is this definately right?
I have just changed the front disks, pads and sensor and rear pads and sensor on my X6 and reset them via the dash.
It is not reset through the idrive or BC button but through the mileage trip reset button which brings up another service menu that can reset the service intervals.
The button is pressed and held in until an exclamation mark appears on the dash, then one of the serviceable icons appears, like front brakes-rear brakes-brake fluid-oil change-MOT, take your finger off the button and then press it again until the item you want to change appears on the dash. When it is on the dash, press and hold the button again until "reset" appears on the screen, press and hold the button again until the mileage changes to just dashes, it will then show the new mileage.
I have not tried this in the Z but it would be worth a try.
