E85 to E89 which engine + Best standard options??

Take both a 4 cylinder and a 6 out for a drive and see what you think. You should be able to get a very nice example for 15k though.

One bit of advice I would give is try and go to a main dealer if you can it's worth it for the warranty. Something I didn't do and ended up regretting.

hmm interesting,
I thought the 28 was the obvious way to go - 0-60 in 5.5 secs
versus the 30 , 0-60 in 5.8 secs which in the real world is pretty much nothing
and real world econ of 38mpg (28) vs 30mpg (30) according to Honest John,
(On my E85 2.0 I get 41mpg average (honest john lists real world at 38 so I guess I'm frugal!?)

the car will be my main driver mainly on motorway sadly, but with a bit of country roads too
my commute is 120 miles (inc return) so fuel economy does come into it though I'm only in the office 2 days a week
the remap sounds interesting - just get a 20 and chip it to get 28 performance?
How much does this cost?

Remap costs vary, people have regretted using the cheaper option of the man in a van (read maniacs experience)
Evolve charge £600 for their map including before & after dyno runs.
The map can be applied to the 18i as well, all 3 variations have identical engines & turbos.

hmm, interesting, but on second thoughts the potential dramas with insurance etc, I'll probably live with stock,
so for 15k its either a 28 or a 30,
next up, what are peoples thoughts on best options? Any that are 'must have'?
I've heard enhanced audio is important as it cant be retrofitted?

If you look at £600 for a re map then do the sums to look at what that additional cash means when you look at 30mpg v 40mpg

A re mapped car will use more fuel when pushed!

The official figures for the 18i, 20i and 28i are identical-the only difference between them is the mapping

My logic is :-

30mpg v 40mpg would only cost him an exrtra £100 a year in fuel costs on a 10,000 useage !

It's not just the fuel cost though Ron, the tax on the n20 cars is £180 a year which also goes into the equation.
I can't see a negative side?

I think that the 3.0l are £295 a year.

Whats the secret Henry? I'm lucky if I get above 30 mpg average on my 2.0i, do you bother to actually accelerate?

Yeah I'm aware it's surprisingly good!
My journeys are mostly motorway so steady 80mph - 85mph for an hour, M40 got to love the fastest motorway in the country!
So I guess I'm literally getting about as good as the engine is capable of!

However when I was commuting into central London I averaged about 37-38 which I was still fairly pleased with,
Only other thing I can think of is I'm pretty light and I never carry passengers!

As for the 28 versus 30 debate ,Not sure where £100 comes from on fuel...
An extra 10mpg at 10000 miles with current fuel prices comes to more like £315 + another £115 extra tax plus the inevitable insurance uppage of say £100 this comes to more like £530 a year extra.... very roughy!
