Retrofitting BMW HiFi on Z4 sDrive 23i

Post by wilwong1971 » Wed Apr 20, 2016 8:44 am

Hi all;

About to purchase a Z4 sDrive 23i with Pro Nav and found this place that would retrofit and code :

https://www.cartronics.co.uk/BMW-Z4-E89 ... er-upgrade

looks good but was quoted £1700 to retrofit and code!

Anyone know other places that would do this cheaper? Or not worth the cost and hassle? Want a subtle install without invalidating the BMW warranty if possible..

Many thanks

That seems like a lot, wouldn't it be better to find a car that had the upgraded hi-fi, even if you have to wait a little bit longer.

Edit, see that you are picking it up later in a separate thread, so not helpful at all sorry

No problem, I think the standard sound is decent enough (well roof up) on the standard setup, my old 325i SE had BMW Hi-Fi option and it would have been nice to have something similar on Z4. but yes a lot of money and for some reason Z4 with Hi Fi option as rare as Hen's teeth :-)

Seems a lot for what they'll put in. Just as an example I've got the 14 speaker upgrade from new and while for £700 it's a very good upgrade, it lacks bass depth, so maybe you'd be better off asking round a few installers and getting a good set up put in, decent aftermarket subs, mids and tweeters, rather than spending a lot on not much which tbh seems what your guys are wanting to do.

If you are willing to spend, go after market, oem is premium money for run of the mill speakers and amp.

Mine is going in to a place in skipton soon that knows their stuff and has done e89s before.

What are you having put in? Are you putting a sub in the boot or just replacing the two OEM ones with aftermarket behind the seats if you have them?

Just found out that £1700 wasn't the full BMW HiFi business either ...it was £990 for just replacing the door speakers and adding tweeters and amp(not adding the centre dash mid range or woofers under the dash or rear speakers by the headrest) and £700 to add two subs behind the seats..then code the car as 676A option...which I thought was a bit of a rip off...they would do HiFi professional retrofit for £7000 ! :cry:

So going to look at aftermarket for sure !
