Re: Oil Temp question
So have had the car back 10 days. The oil temp is perfect...but... last night drove it for the first time since about boxing day and after about 3 miles the radiator fan kicked on high again. All temps showing cold.
Does anyone else have their fan come on when the car is cold before I call the dealer AGAIN??

Re: Oil Temp question
Well, Ground Hogs Day, the movie, Light came on the fan was howling, and the oil temp didn't move.
As my wife pulled it in the she was met by the service adviser who had the district rep with him. He said he could hear her pull into the parking lot the fan was making that much noise. It's the first time they had heard that.
The district manager noticed that she was on the schedule and was the 3rd time she had been in in a month and asked WTF??
Hopefully now they will fix this gremlin of a problem.

Re: Oil Temp question
Maybe no use as its a different car but just after I had the thermostat housing changed on the mini the fan was coming on almost immediately and going off when it warmed up after driving for 15 mins.
It turned out to be a faulty sensor on the new thermostat housing and once changed it was fine.

Re: Oil Temp question
Well here's the update.
The code was for a thermostat
They had changed it once and the new one had a different part # so they were hopeful BMW upgraded it.
So they installed it and did a couple of run test with it and it still failed.
BMW suggested an oil pressure sensor, the tech thought that was bogus, and in that went.
Still broke.
Now BMW has sent them new software to flash the computer and that's were we are .....

Re: Oil Temp question
This is sounding like a bit of mission to get to the bottom of. Fingers crossed that the flash works. Good job you've stuck at it. Most people would just take their word that it was acting as it should.

Sounds like they don't have a clue and are playing 'guess a part'
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Actually BMW is running the show.
They are following their instructions.
So yes, they ran out of ideas

Re: Oil Temp question
Latest update. Car has been in the shop 2 weeks this time.Service adviser called and said that there are 12 of these computer modules in the country and I guess there is another car that has the same symptoms and so they are recalling all the spares and build new ones. I guess they think they are all faulty.
Will be 10 days at the earliest.
Wish we had a little sportier loaner than the 2016 X1
But my wife says it doesn't drive bad.
I thought all cars from 2015 on had to have back up cameras... not that you guys would know that as I think that was a US mandate
NOTE: Just looked it up . They moved it again to 2018

Re: Oil Temp question
This weeks update
The NEW DME module came in and they installed and downloaded the software.
The shop foreman drove it home...No problem
First start up in the morning it went straight to the over heating and the oil temp gauge didn't move.
After lengthy calls and information passes to BMW they are now on the electric water pump.
They will try that on Tuesday.
I get the feeling from my service adviser that they are reaching the end of ideas.
He's never seen a car you can't fix. He's stumped and glad it's in the Corporation's court

Re: Oil Temp question
With the fault showing a faulty thermostat sensor there is nothing to say that the replacement that was fitted wasnt faulty also.
As I said previously a new thermostat housing was fitted to our mini but the sensor in it was faulty.

Re: Oil Temp question
Well, they got the water pump in but decided to change the intercooler first.
After that was installed it ran great....for a day and a half.
They started it up today to have it cleaned for my wife to pick up, and back to the original symptoms.
So today the water pump will be replaced and then some drive cycles tomorrow.
Don't see how that will fix it.
I think it's time for a face to face with the dealership and BMW
