I'm guessing that it will be a big labour cost to dismantle and get to the mechanism. The glass will be the cheap bit. Covered on insurance, but i'd say not a job for Autoglass.
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Sounds like a chat with your insurance company might be in order. Interested to hear there take on it.

What it should be, is that as Autoglass can not fit it, that you just pay the normal excess but the dealer can fit it. It was the same with my X5 windscreen. Done by BMW, just paid the usual £60 whilst the bill was something like £1500 or so.

Be careful, they may have smashed the glass and attempted to program a key via the port - was it the drivers side?

Big issues with BMW's of our generation being taken like this.

Sorry how would that have made sense?

The people breaking in to try and reprogram keys do so by breaking a small hole in the front window in the corner because the internal sensor doesn't cover this part of the car and therefore it makes it easier to reach the OBD II port which sits below the bonnet latch and then they can plug in the hardware they need to program a key and get the car unlocked and be able to drive off with it.

So trying to do this from the rear quarter would be impossible!

Can Autoglass definitely not do it? They replaced my drivers window go £70 on glass insurance. The guy was excellent, even offered to come back in a couple of weeks to remove more glass of it came out if the door.

Does this work for the E85? Obviously not the breaking the window part, but I've only got one key for mine and the only place I found that could code them is BM keys but they are in London and I'm in Yorkshire so I'd have to be without my car if I sent him the key, so if you know any indy garages or locksmiths who can do this it would be appreciated
