Re: Should I upgrade
From what others have posted on this forum at various times the 19" wheels on the standard 35i sport suspension (i.e. not adaptive) is not the best combination - a trifle too 'sporty' for some I believe!

I have 19" wheels on my 35i and find it a very smooth ride indeed.

Re: Should I upgrade
Basically you get the VIN number, easy enough to do via the BMW Warranty site here: https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/BMW/CarDetails/Indexpetrolhead wrote:Going to have a go with a DCT car.
Vin Decoder??? Does it have active suspension
And then you put it into this site: http://www.bmwvin.com/?vin=WBALM72090E4 ... ield=16820 and it will give you the spec of the car
However it doesn't have the adaptive suspension

Re: Should I upgrade
As in politics I have done a U turn and decided to keep what I have.
If I am honest I would rather wait and buy a new Boxster. Having been out today for a hard fast blat I have come to the deccision no matter what I do to the Z4 it will never handle like it should. To be fair to the Z4 though I would say its an excellent GT car but not a sports car

Re: Should I upgrade
I could add to this topic as I am in debate as to whether I should get a Z4 that I have seen. It's a 2010 Z4 3.0 M Sport in the right colour combination/spec (bar the interior inserts). Prob is that I feel it is very strong money at the best part of £19k and my cost to change from my TTR is £9k

Dont know if its relevant as ours is the 23i m sport but we paid just under that 2 years ago for our 2010 model.

Only thing they have in common is its a E89. The comparison is like comparing apples and pears. Can't compare the price of a 2.5l straight 6 which is no longer in production via a 3.0l twin turbo straight 6 with 7 speed DTC which is still in production. And two years ago to boot.Nictrix wrote:Dont know if its relevant as ours is the 23i m sport but we paid just under that 2 years ago for our 2010 model.
Things that effect price is model, I don't believe the 23i is as desirable a model, compared to a 3.0l straight 6, the 30i is more desirable, then 35i fillowed by 35is. I'd go as far as saying the 28i is probably up the 'desirability' pecking order than the 23i now.
Other things that effect the price is private or dealer sale, condition of car in and out, optional extras, manual of auto, mileage, number of owners.
Might help someone looking at a 23i today though

Funnily enough though, when we were looking the 23i was the model we wanted. Not everybody wants the top of the range engine.
But thanks for basically saying that our car is the model nobody wants.

Re: Should I upgrade
Hey, when I started to consider the Z4 the 23i was what I looked at because that's what the dealer had but never took it out. If I was looking today and I couldn't stretch to a 35 and my other options were the 23 or the 18/20 and even 28 I'd choose the 23i all day long as I'd rather have a 6 cylinder over the 4 cylinder and there are people out there like me who would purposely choose a 6 cylinder over a 4 cylinder all day long.Nictrix wrote:Exactly why I said I dont know if its relevant.Angie4m wrote:Only thing they have in common is its a E89. I'm not quite sure however what your post was really contributing to the topic. Petrolhead already has a 35i and was looking at a auto version of the same car. He's since decided he's not changing or was it more aimed at mwadz4? It just seemed very irrelevant to the original topic.

Re: Should I upgrade
Well looking around at others for sale of the same year and model it would seem that 19k is slightly overpriced and there are cheaper ones out there.
Sorry if you felt my response was useless, it wasn't for you anyway. And yes it was aimed at mwadz.

Thanks for the comments Nictrix and Angie.
I agree that I think £19 k is a strong price. The 3.0 seem to be really holding their prices atm

While it doesn't come as sorted out of the box, it doesn't take much to make it very, very good.petrolhead wrote:As in politics I have done a U turn and decided to keep what I have.

There is a company in north Germany, I think Hamburg, who provide suspension and geo set up for the Z4 as they race the cars. They provide B12 kits, new upgrades to adjust camber and put on some decent rubber (PSS). You would not believe the difference.
I took my car for a full BMW geo alignment as they have the right software and tools to adjust the electronic dampers - one rear wheel was 1 degree out of camber.
I think if you invest ~1k-1.5k you would transform the car (if you wanted to invest...)
