Connected drive

Post by markplant » Tue Aug 11, 2015 6:48 pm

Bare with me as I'm not a e89 owner
If you have a car with connected drive or had it retro fitted,
There is a my 'my BMW remote app'
Door lock/unlock
Sound horn
Headlight flash
Activate air-conditioning and set
And was told remote start

Sorry if this is old news

Yip! And even then it can be 'temperamental' especially the locking of the car. I can get it to unlock with less issues.

Gimmick really. Great if you need something out the car and your keys are indoors. Saves a trip inside which for me means 4 flights of stairs

It's a gimmick ok but one they charge £140 for !
Unfortunately it's also got the emergency call thing attached so they hook you in with that !

Ps (for angie)
It only locks the car, I don't think it alarms it?

It's not just about the app though. I find the online route creator handy and google send to function. Top of the tree for me though is the concierge service, where you can simply call what is effectively a PA and have them send you directions, look for hotels, cinemas etc

This isn't present in my new shiny MB and I miss it.

Then on new models you also get the real time traffic data too.

Last time I used it the cost was £120 a year. A bargain for what you get IMHO.

Ive just got a 335 for my wife and Im sure the traffic is a paid for service - you've got me thinking now. I will check when I'm back from holiday.

As my zed is a summer toy, I'm glad that they now offer a six month option. Currently £80

The route planner and send to car is a great function. As I have the emergency button in the roof I wouldn't need to subscribe for emergency servicing calling. It's a standalone system with no subscription but I hope I never need to use it either for myself or others.

It's good to know that if you have (God forbid) an airbag deploy bump it dials help for you - no language barrier. I justify the cost as an extra holiday cost.

Just a thought as I'm on the ferry to ijmuiden at this time, I wonder how they would react to a call from car deck 5 :D - no I'm not going to try!

You need to go online and there is a Google send to car fiction. Basically you use googal to plan a route and if your happy with it you can 'send to car' via the connected drive portal and when you get into the car it's waiting in the sat nav for you.

You can even add an image to it too

Sadly google maps send to car function only sends the destination, not the route. The car then plots the route based on nav settings.

You must use the BMW online route planner to send an entire route accurately as you wish it, for example a tour of Scotland or a planned car meet drive route. It's within this system you can add names, pictures etc.
